Lewis doesn’t come across as a quality halfback to me.
He’s an attacking stand off, not a game organising scrum half. Wane is playing two standoffs, he needs good early ball but instead he had australia in his face whenever he got it due to our pack being shite and not drawing in defenders.

Man of steel and mom in grand final plus his seasons stats would suggest you haven’t seen much of him lol

Okay guy's ( and girls). I'm after some help here. I live in Australia and would like to know if there's any possible way for me to watch the 2nd Ashes test with commentary by the pommie commentators. I've watched all the highlights from the first test with the poms commentating and was blown away by the different atmosphere and feeling of excitement that they created. Plus you could actually hear the crowd noise properly as well. I've got kayo and normally love watching the games on there but last weekend I just found Greg Alexander to be extremely boring.
Yes get a vpn and watch it on bbc iplayer. Though why you’d want to is a mystery lol

That’s not really the point.

It suggests that the camp is a bit of a mess, in all honesty. Spines being thrown together and training maybe 3-4 times before a game through selection rather than enforced changes, such as suspension and injury, just really says that Wane doesn’t really have a clue what his best side is, what its spine looks like and any continuity in the key positions. It’s coming across a bit desperate now and a man coming towards the end of his lifespan as coach that he’s now just throwing mud at a wall and hoping any of it sticks.

Changing your spine is a desperate act and questions as to how badly Wane’s got it will be asked.
He picked team 1 on favourites not on form. It blew up in his face and now he’s woken up to that fact, a little bit lol

hadley and minchela should have been in squad, burgess has been scoring for fun off lewis kicks and that should have been our game plan. Connor in to kick them to death. Smith and Williams have been on poor form and didn’t deserve their places. Likewise Knowles amd welsby.
I’d have kept Nsemba in squad for more experience for him, he will hopefully come good again next year ofr World Cup, but not in the team. Brimson should have been fullback.

buy hey if coaching was easy we’d all be out there lol

Seeming you’re a HKR fan you’ve obviously seen a lot more of him than I have. However I have seen a fair bit of him. Excited by the hype and let down by the performance everytime. Super League also isn’t the same standard as it used to be.

Again, the point isn’t whether he should do nothing, the point is how and why has it gone so disastrously wrong that you’re going into a series defining (and perhaps job defining) game having ripped the spine you’ve trained with for two weeks to shreds and are now going with a spine that have trained together no more than 4 times? Alarm bells should be ringing.

As for what should be done, I won’t go into who may have done better outside the 24. I think the spine probably needs Harry Smith. Personally, I would have gone with him in game one over George Williams and would go with him over Williams in game two. That’s probably all I would do with the spine, in all honesty. Bateman and Havard have no place near an England team anyway and should both go out the side. I think Oledzki won’t far much better than Havard and will be dominated by their pack, so I would be tempted to put Knowles in at prop and run with Smithies at 13.

Ultimately though, the issues go beyond Shaun Wane, accusations he has favourites and this 24 man squad.
What went disastrously wrong? They lost to the world's best team by 20 points. I assume you are equally reading Tonga their last rites after a 28 point loss? It's all over for them too? FMD talk about overreaction.

Shaun Wayne has lost 2 out of 13 tests since taking over as coach and he suffers one 20 point loss to an incredible Kangaroos team and it's disastrous? Yeah, some of the selections were questionable and the team as a whole didn't perform, but that's why he's making changes.

QLD lost the 2024 State of Origin series pretty emphatically to NSW and then lost game 1 2025 convincingly also and guess what? Billy Slater made changes. It happens.

I think Australia will end up winning this series 3-0, I also think there will be a much improved game 2 from England but ultimately, before a ball was kicked in this series, 3-0 to Australia was a good bet. You're being way too harsh on England.

Are you related to Shaun Wane?

For alleged Tier One nation, you cannot celebrate a 20 point loss in the way that you are. Tonga are historically not a Tier One nation and have only risen to some form of prominence in the past ten years. It’s like asking why the Titans haven’t won as many titles as the Broncos.

From someone that was there on Saturday, England were never in the game, they never looked like scoring, they never looked like winning and it was as drab and dull a game of rugby league I’ve ever seen. Many reckon Australia weren’t good but they never needed to be good given how poor England were. Even dropping the balls as much as they did, England couldn’t do anything with the ball nor had any threat whatsoever.

England have been woeful under Wane. They’ve bombed the easiest route to a World Cup final ever and in the next major event, The Ashes, they were awful in Test One have ripped up their spine that they’ve trained with for two weeks for a near new spine, who’ll train together for four days, at very most. It doesn’t paint for a good future. Deeper than that, the standard of English player is poor, as proven by the squad selected, we’ve 8 30+ year old’s in the side and could have easily added another couple, who have been in form domestically. Celebrating beating Samoa and Tonga shows the level of support you have for England. They should be givens. That’s the standard.

The international game is so important to the future of the game in England. 130k will watch this series, TV figures peaked at 930,000. If we can have a profitable series and get England into the homes of people, we will do well, as history suggests. Getting it so wrong, as we are, is so detrimental to the game, more so when spunk trumpets like Wane claims the 60,812 at Wembley weren’t proper rugby league fans.

Where you in the toilet for the game? We nearly scored off the short grubber and a couple of better timed passes not knocked down by walsh and we could very easily have scored at least three more tries.

I'm no Wane fan by any stretch and I think his team choice has been poor, but we were no where near as bad as many have made out. We could very easily have been leading at HT. Its not often we struggle in the pack but thats where our problems are. Weve got plenty of attack in Lewis, Farnworth, Young, Litten etc but they cant do anything f the pack is being beaten and dropping the ball.

you said they never looked like scoring, we came within a cocks hair of three or four tries.
I agree we wouldnt have won, I fully expect a 3-0 result. Australia has ten times our revenue, by rights we shouldn't even be this close.

We quite literally didn’t.

Amazing work on the keyboard despite having no eyes though, champ.

you must have been so happy we lost so you could continue to be miserable lol. You going to Liverpool, champ?

I didn’t care what the result was, I’m not an England fan. I went to see Australia, as they rarely play on these shores. Seeing them, especially Walsh, was great. The game went completely as expected with that side named and it was much like watching the 2025 Saints team. In fact, Reece Walsh to score at anytime and Australia -14.5 pts made it a great afternoon as the ticket was paid for with the winnings.

Nope, I’m done with live rugby league for the year. January and the Challenge Cup early rounds will be my next game.
