His defence was great. It’s his attack that was fairly pedestrian, though he was still very effective just through sheer volume of involvement.

His support play was first class
His passing game was 2nd only to Ponga (best passing game in league imo) at fullback.
Short kick game excellent
Run game not great the last 3 or 4 yrs. 2020-2022 it was effective
Under high ball - Top shelf

I rate Iongi. He is a gun. But lets not forget how good the KING was. He was pretty awesome for us

Agree, his downside was the way he conducted extensions and In a sense the manner in which he left. Probably some of that poor behaviour was on the front office too , great for us but strangely at the end his crown had slipped .

If we sign NAS we’ll have a few youngsters sitting in cup when we’re at full strength. But realistically, how often will we have no injuries or suspensions? (Especially with how often NAS gets suspended).
If Tuivati stays injury free I think he’ll still get a few opportunities throughout the year.
the pack might look something like

Paulo
Smith
Hopgood
Williams
Kautoga
De Belin

TDS
Walker
NAS
Moretti

with tuilagi, tuivati, guymer, talagi, doorey all options depending on their form and which position we are short in that week

I would be suprised if he reaches Guthersons peak level. He was top 2 defensive fullback for quite a while. And top 3 ball playing fullback for a long time. Maybe even still currently.
Iongi will never be a top 5 defender. Maybe not even top 10. He is just to small. His ball playing is ok but Guthersons was elite. He also doesn't offer the same support play but that can be fixed.

Guthersons last few years were below par but at his peak he was one of the best Eels ever. Iongi is an excellent rookie. Be great to see how much he improves in 2026. But he may just plateau. It's a guess
You can’t really plateau until you hit the heights, Iongi is good but yet to do that makes ur point somewhat moot at the moment, time will tell

Star Parramatta half Mitchell Moses has hit back at critics of the Eels’ decision to secure Jonah Pezet from the Storm for the 2026 NRL season, saying it’s the perfect buffer to help develop the club’s rising crop of young players.
The Eels will get Pezet for 12 months before he joins Brisbane the following year on a long-term deal to replace veteran halfback Adam Reynolds.

Moses backs Eels' Pezet pursuit
Mitchell Moses and Patrick Carrigan discuss the future of Jonah Pezet who could join both their clubs.
The signing is definitely unusual, but coach Jason Ryles has been spot on in every recruiting decision he has made so far.
Moses, who is on tour with the Kangaroos in England, is the club’s star player and his view counts more than most.
“I’ve heard all the criticism, but I think the signing is unreal,” Moses said.
“I think I can unlock him, and he can do the same for me. I’ve seen what he can do and he is more than ready. He knows his stuff. You can see it in the way he plays. The one-year deal is no issue. We have some really exciting halves coming up and the one extra year is perfect for them to keep their development going. It’s a win for the club.”

Mitchell Moses says Eels signing Jonah Pezet will help the younger halves next year.Credit:parramatta Eels

We’ll see I guess

And he was an absolute merkin when it came to fan interaction, pretty disrespectful!!!!

Watched the highlights of the test. f**k I hope we’ve already agreed in principle to announce the Foxx later long term.

Even in that Australian side he is an elite attacking threat!

Get that contract lodge with the NRL Mon, let’s trot baby.

He also was at his peak when being compared to Turbo,Teddy,Edwards,Papps,Ponga and to a lesser extend Latrell were all at peak. Some amazing fullbacks.

Now you have Walsh but who else? Those 5-6 guys are on the slide.

That was his best game for mine, there was a play where the poms dropped a pass and the Fox stood over the ball, near the sideline and waited for Burgess to pick it up then rag dolled him over the side line and it all happened so fast. It's those little things in his game that he has improved.

Defense is also half the game. Gutherson I've seen multiple times save 2 or 3 one on one Try's that 90% of fullbacks couldnt stop. Thats 12-18 POINTS a game.
Some are down playing how good he was since he left I reckon. Or remembering his last 1 or 2 years. Behind Hayne he was our best Fullback I've seen.
Ionghi woukd be doing very well to take thst mantle. Hope he does but one good rookie season is to small a sample size
You saw he him save 2-3 tries a game one on one?

Yup from my time watching parra King was 2nd best behind Hayne. He was the ray price of fullbacks.

Points wise both setting them up and stopping them including catching bombs he was right up there and the effort.

I wish he did stay and played 13 but then we wouldn't have got dyl. Dyl guth Rotation for 13
