Did he play union at Brisbane grammar or whichever school he went too ?

Think I read he starred in both codes as a kid
Fair enough but it's still a leap for playing it in school many years ago to... 3 million dollar professional.
He's a trained professional RL player. There's a massive amount of sports science, nutrition and training gone into making him the best at a specific role within a game.
His muscle memory will be counter intuitive for a long time.

Sorry, I'm rambling.. it just pisses me off to see such a talent wasted.

It's like discovering Mike Tyson, only to have someone pull him away because they see his potential changing the keg at the local bar.

Waste.

You'd figure if he is playing Union he is a 12 or 13 playing a power running game. He can ball play well enough to fill that role and would be a nightmare out wide for opposing backs.

If he’s been offered 3 million Aussie tax free to play 12 games of union then he should bite their hands off

But it’s bs they offered union stars 900k to 1 million

This is his manager trying to get him up to 1.5 million

He didn’t look like he was leaving the game yesterday the way he played and got emotional during the anthem

Yeah cause that's how it works. So simple that anyone from League could carve up. Exhibit A : Nathan Blacklock who had been the leading tryscorer for the NRL 3 years running, who very much struggled playing union for the Waratahs. Though he did have one cracking try.

I think Haas would be a handful in Union. Which is why they would throw money cause he would be an interesting player to watch cross over.

Union as far as fitness goes has come a long way from the days of just fat guys lolling around the field. Don't get me wrong, I struggle to watch the game cause it's too stop start, and no one signs up to watch a scrum repack 3 times so they can get it right while the clock ticks down. They were so close with the perfect rules for the sport with the focus on attack in the late 90s early 2000s, but then the Northern Hemisphere decided that people like the all the lineouts, scrums etc and ensure they were in plentiful supply and as someone who liked to watch both sports, found myself watching it less and less to the point that I don't even know they played a match anymore (Australia).

I remember that try

Bumped into him at a nightclub at Foxstudios at the time and told him we missed him at the dragons and Wayne Pearce was an idiot for not picking him for origin

He did ok with limited chances

Sailor was unstoppable, rogers and tuqiri were good

Folau was their best player for years

Some reserve grade souths player Duncan something was the super rugby player of the year

Sure it’s harder for a league player to play forward in union but held even Sam burgess played centre for union in their World Cup semis

Sailor was pretty meh at Union. Tuqiri, Roger's, Walker went alright. Folau was excellent.

Williams went well in NZ, as did Thorn.

Jason Robinson went well in England.

Haas would be a 6 or 8 I'd imagine. His positional play would need a bit of work. If they ref the game like Super, he'd be fine. Massive potential to get shown up if it's a more Northern style of football.

If I'm the Broncos, let him go. They survived without Carne. Thorn. Tuqiri. Sailor. Hunt. Folau. The game goes on.

R360, 8 teams tournament, 360 players, need at least to triple the positions (replacements and backups players).
48 fats or massives cheater front rowers used to scrumaging.
24 pizza launchers hookers.
32 slender second rowers with flexible neck to follow ball in the air and to walk from a lineout to another.
48 clevers back rowers with understanding and acceptation referee decisions on rucks cleaning
24 scrum halves with hability to slow down pace of the game while waiting for the ball behind the ruck player's train and kicking and returning ball to the opponent
24 fly half whose role is to wait for the ball during long sessions of pick and go generally return it to the opponent
48 centers able not to take too much initiative and risk isolating oneself from one's partners
48 wings same as centers and fly half combined duties
24 fullbacks with long range kicking game ability
8 training staff with offensive, defensive, scrum, line out and kicking game specialists
8 medical staff with caretakers, physiotherapist, rehabilitation specialist, and works on mental health issues
A least 8 ground referees, 16 touch lines assistants, 4 video referees all with high degrees of university education to understand the rules and a lot of pedagogy to explain them to players and the public in general.

And all this from nothing and only RL players 🤣

seems that the biggest supporters of R360 are Australian RL journos and NRL player agents
I’m not one for quelling free speech, or censoring the media, but….. maybe the NRL should extend their 10-year R360 ban to journo accreditations. Any journo writing stories on R360 have their NRL accreditation removed. They could still write it as ‘staff writers’, but they’d be playing risky game.

I would love this but I know it wouldn't happen. I am so f**king over hearing about R360. It's like the NRL media has nothing else to talk about so they revert to R360 to get clicks.

Brent Reid is literally the worst gossip monger. Here he is again saying Brisbane are pleading with him to stay. We all know Reid didn't say Haas was negotiating with R360 to Brisbane as they would have reported his agent to the NRL. So Reid (if he actually knows this stuff) is ignoring an actual story of 'why is an NRL agent negotiating with R360 if it results in his stable of 20 players being lost and a 10-year ban?' Why hasn't Reid put that to the NRL? I tell you why because it is all BS. This article says upwards of $3m today. It was $3m yesterday. Also no other paper or journo is running with this. If it were even remotely true it would be front page of the Courier Mail and SMH not back page.

Brisbane chair Karl Morris has urged Payne Haas to consider his legacy at the club and the opportunities that come with being a Broncos legend as the powerhouse prop weighs up a mega-offer from rebel rugby union competition R360.

This masthead revealed at the weekend that Haas was giving serious consideration to a life-changing deal from R360 given the amount of money that is believed to be on the table – it is understood Haas could earn upwards of $3 million a season with the breakaway competition.

The Broncos would love to keep Haas, but neither they nor any other rugby league club can match the money that is available to switch codes.

Money, Morris insists, shouldn’t be the only factor that Haas considers as he makes a call on his next move. The 25-year-old, who has just under 12 months remaining on his existing deal at the Broncos, has the opportunity to finish his rugby league career as an all-time great and remain a part of the Broncos well beyond his playing days.

“We’ll do our best to keep him,” Morris said.

“We want him to stay at the Broncos for the rest of his career. We want the to be one of the greats of the club and leave a legacy here.”

Haas is well on the way to doing just that, having helped inspire the Broncos to a drought-breaking premiership only last month. In the end, that title win over Melbourne may work against the Broncos given it was one of the few remaining items on Haas’ bucket list.

The Samoa and NSW forward has achieved almost everything the game as to offer and his head has now seemingly been turned by a new challenge, not to mention the opportunity to set he and his family up for the rest of their lives.

There has been talk Haas could earn the equivalent of $5 million a season once tax incentives are factored into the R360 offer. It’s an insane amount of money and the whisper is that R360 officials would like to announce Haas when they go public with their first slew of signings in coming weeks – they are expected to begin naming names after rugby union’s international season is over in the next fortnight.

“There is a wonderful opportunity for him to have a long association with the Brisbane Broncos past his playing career as well,” Morris said.

“He has the chance to be an all-time great at the Broncos. That will bring with it some long-term opportunities for Payne at the club.”

Those opportunities will go up in dust if Haas elects to leave the code. The NRL has promised to hand down 10 year bans to any player or agent who becomes entangled with R360 and while there remains a level of cynicism at Rugby League Central, there is also a determination to come down hard on any defectors.

If Haas does decide to defect in coming weeks, it could mean he has played his last game for the Broncos if the NRL deems that any ban must take immediate effect.

That would be a sledgehammer blow to the Broncos in their bid to defend their title.“

He’s saying they are waiting for the union internationals to finish before announcing their signings of union players next week

Losing haas would suck but seeing this destroy union would be amazing

I just don’t see it happening sadly

Tino for haas would be a pretty good replacement lol

Well at least there's this announcement to look forward to, at least then we'll know what the bloody hell we're looking at.
If this is happening, I think there will be some bombshells for Union because there's a lot of players needed for a new comp and only a handful of League players are reported.
I'd say the Union numbers will be significant.
