France is the answer for the NRL. Would be better off getting into bed with both Tolouse and Catalans, invest in pathways, coaching and development, and put together a pipeline for young talent both to and from the NRL. 20/30 year plan sorta stuff. Real KPIs.

Yep, Government funding is the only reason RL does well in Australia... FMD
We are talking about ARLC and developing other countries. Keep up!
If only RFL got the money arlc gets from aus govt to develop the game in pacific!
No money no pacific development. Arlc isn’t spending it’s own money But you think RFL should spend theirs on France?

Again, you think the NRL got anything for bringing the Warriors into the comp?

Stop making excuses for the RFLs complete lack of forward thinking

They should be playing France and Wales every year and have u16's and 18's play as curtain raisers so the people going to the game get to see the youngsters that are coming through. It will make more people sit up and notice that at the younger age groups, they are all capable of winning. Grow it, stick with it and in the future those other two nations will get better as the boys turn into men.

It's a very simplistic view. PVL seems to be able to cultivate good relationships with Politicians which helps our game get opportunities and funding.

Then with that funding, NRL is overseeing development in the Pacific and is more actively involved (financially and otherwise) in NZ development these days.

The ARL brought warriors in. 30 years ago, as did SL with Catalans. In fact Sl has brought in two French clubs before NRl has two NZ clubs lol.
The current spending on pacific development is being bankrolled by the Aussie taxpayer, not the NRL.

Yep like I said, the Chinese 'threat' is why NRL is working on the pacific, not some amazing visionary plan. Its pure opportunism based on someone else funding it.
With all the money the NRl has got their efforts in NZ to grow the game have been pathetic up till now.
But hey RFL with not enough money to run the game in england well should be going all out to develop the game in France. Yeh sure.

Couple of really key facts mate

1. The RFL forces the Dragons to not only pay for their travel but also the travel expences of visiting teams. Its not like they have been facilitating much for them or even giving them a level playing field. The RFL and the English clubs have actively been making it very hard. They have all but been forced to bring in Toulouse because their model couldnt be ignored.

2. The ARL, the governing body who preceeded the NRL, brought the Warriors in yes. Semantics. The NRL also takes games to other areas of NZ each year and not just Warriors games

3. Yes the Australian gov is tipping in $ now but what about the last 20+ years of development in the Pacific? Who has been funding and organising the ANZAC tests, Pac champs, etc

Facts are the RFL are the biggest RL body in Europe and have acted out of short sighted self interest at every turn. They had many opportunities over the years to lead Europe, and even Nth America, in developing Intl footy which would have expanded the player base and quality of their own comp. They chose not to and are now in the hole of their own digging.

Whinge about Australia having more advantages all you want but it doesnt change the position the RFL has gotten its own self into

Again. They should do it because it is in their best interests to do so.
SL broadcast rights have been shrinking over time to a smaller audience in England
and their only viable international opposition are southern hemisphere teams who for the most part make more money from staying home.

If the relationships aren't there, we aren't taking advantage of any opportunity.

As much as I hate it, this is why AFL gets funding for quality stadia. Relationships are there and they pounce when an opportunity presents.

Soccer dominates in England, sure, but the game being run like dog shit and no high level relationships means it's well off it's potential.

I don’t get Wales. It would be utterly pointless. There’s about 10 clubs in Wales, the one “Welsh” side in the UK game, North Wales Crusaders, train in St Helens and drive in to Colwyn Bay on matchdays only, I’d be extremely surprised if they had any Welsh born players and the amount of actual Welsh born players elsewhere can probably be counted on one hand

Get enough money. And if they can't get enough money. They need someone in there who can.

This. It’s that simple. We’d rather reminisce about Bradford 25 years ago and get rid of loop games to only bring them back two months later.

They’ve given two French clubs places at the top table. More than nrl has done so far for nz.

Geez why has no one thought of that before? lol. You have no idea of the backfoot RL is on in England, And has been since its inception. Being back in the country for some time now for first time in 25 years I’d forgotten just what a north-south class based country it is.
no amount of wishing is going to change the English culture.

So true, but we can't give up. I like giving you grief just because ya a pom. I can't fault your passion for the game. Yet at the same time you come across as defeatist. That's not in my DNA.

A gentle reminder that this apparent class divide has rugby league as, likely, the second most shown sport on Sky, after football. Union would kill for approximately 175 domestic games on TV a year.

How do the two codes tv deals compare?
Despite being arguably the countries second biggest domestic team sport the southern based media largely ignore it, why is that?
Why has it taken so long for a Rugby league player to get a knighthood when so many people from other sports have received them?
hmmmm.
