Or it could be even higher once the inevitable ratchet clauses kick in.
Let’s assume Iongi under both scenarios improves the same year on year and that under your ratchet clause theory that they kick in years 3,4,5.
Even if the first 2 years are identical pay, do you reckon the negotiations for years 3-5 would be more or less than the ratchet clauses? Because logic says with same player performance, the new negotiation is going to be for more.
Thats coupled in with most people would be more inclined to take the more guaranteed money in contract even if it’s lower average dollars per year I.e. if you don’t want to offer him 5 years at $5m then 2 years may cost you $2.2m.

The risk of length as @King-Gutho94 said is it increases the risk he doesn’t improve at the same rate

He wouldn't have seen the contract just like the rest of us on here haven't.

So its pointless going off what he says and judging that to be factual.

Anyway a figure like 800k for a fullback now might be seen as overs in 26 & 27 but unders in 28-30.
Fully agreed. There’s risks and benefits to every contract but I’m very happy we’ve locked Iongi down. I don’t know if he’ll ever be best fullback in game but I reckon he’ll always be near top and always put in

It’s not a 5 year contract. It’s an extension of an existing contract (3 more years) that was due to end in 2027. Apparently we signed him for $400k a season for seasons 25, 26 and 27. I reckon that has now been upgraded to something like $500k for ‘26, $575k for ‘27 and $650k for ‘28 which is technically the first year of his 3 year extension. For ‘29 and ‘30 you’d think it would be $700k and $750k with some performance incentives with more coin if he becomes a SOO player.

It would be highest when he is expected to be at his peak and lower either side of that, adjusted for salary cap inflation of course.
No matter what thought Pou lands on, he’ll still be the odd one out — he always manages to put himself there. Then play the victim and wait for help. It’s Pou 101.
I'm no victim. I'm just pointing out that when you gang up on one merkin it reflects poorly on you, whether you're coming after me, Gronk or that Tigers merkin who hangs around here.

I'm not talking about the facts of this contract; I am talking about the reality of player values over time.

Personally, I doubt Iongi's contract is for the same amount each year. It doesn't benefit either party to do it that way. We've probably front loaded part of it into some of the cap space vacated by Lomax's contract. I say probably because I don't know, just like you. But I'm at least capable of an educated guess, and I support my reasoning with logic and facts when they are available. Obviously some merkins don't like that.

If many disagree with your nonsense it’s not ganging up you f**king deprived troll.

Aggressively vilifying or singling merkins out isn't 'disagreement'. When a bunch of pissy losers do it, it is definitely ganging up.
Spare us the moral lecture — you calling others “losers” while whining about people being “aggressively vilified” makes you the biggest hypocrite in the thread. If anyone is doing the ganging-up routine, it’s the bloke throwing labels around and playing victim at the same time.

Guymer is going to be a very good player.

Developing nicely and showed some good versatility last year playing a few roles (middle, edge and "middle half"). Just needs time and the usual 50-100 nrl games......

Wouldn't surprise either if he was our captain one day.....
Really, I think he is Alvaro like. Good backup to fill in when someone is injured. I wouldn't even have him the 17.

For mine, he lacks, power, acceleration and speed.

He has a good work ethic and motor. So very similar to Alvaro and Hindy in his latter years where he just tackled everything or flopped.

I reckon Ryley will be a future captain if he stays.

I didn't name names, merkin. The fact I'm talking about multiple losers means I'm not singling anyone out either.

Let’s not speculate on dollars, and don’t just dismiss Pou’s comments because you don’t like him. If we were to renegotiate with him in 29, it’s more likely he’ll think he’s worth more dollars at that time then he currently thinks in 2025 what he’ll be worth in 2029.

And your scenario above also isn’t ratcheting, its basic increases. Ratcheting is tying the increase to increases in the cap, which I think the NRL sort of not like.

I'll admit - I wasn't a fan, at first.

But as the season wore on, he got better, and better.

If he can develop some strength to not get dominated in every tackle, he will be a gem.
