Because he wasn’t free to talk to rivals for another 11 months
Because he was already contracted until the end of ‘27.

You guys are no fun!

It's good to see we didn't wait until mid next year to get the ball rolling on an extension...

And yes both parties need to want to extend instead of going to market to test their value....

The mole is having a laugh

Surely the Tigers ain't this dumb to sack Benji for Brad Arthur.

Oh and BA's mouthpiece says he has plenty of options haha.

Perth isnt of them though after they brushed him for Mal

Benji Marshall is the next Wests Tiger in the crosshairs of the Holman Barnes Group that has cut a swathe through the club.

Insiders have told Wide World of Sports that the group has already secretly nominated a potential replacement for Marshall - former Eels coach Brad Arthur.

Benji "has the full support of the board" - but will need to win plenty of games next season to retain his post.

The Holman Barnes Group is conducting a purge of the club, with chairman and former NSW Premier Barry O'Farrell, three other independent directors and CEO Shane Richardson all moving on in the past week.

Arthur is coaching Leeds in England and has made no secret of the fact that he wants to coach in the NRL again - most probably in 2027.

A source close to the former Eels coach cryptically told WWOS this week: "He will not be short of options."

Marshall is the last remaining high-profile off-field figure at the club following mass changes in recent seasons that have come to a head over the past week.

He lifted the Tigers off the bottom of the ladder last season to 13th spot and will need to at least equal that feat to retain his job for 2027.

I'm not a big fan of Brad Arthur's, but to be fair to him - he has a lot of experience in dealing with dysfunctional boards.

The Tigers could do worse.

The problem for them is that the world has already seen Arthur's ceiling as a coach - he won't get any better.

Let’s not speculate on dollars, and don’t just dismiss Pou’s comments because you don’t like him. If we were to renegotiate with him in 29, it’s more likely he’ll think he’s worth more dollars at that time then he currently thinks in 2025 what he’ll be worth in 2029.

And your scenario above also isn’t ratcheting, its basic increases. Ratcheting is tying the increase to increases in the cap, which I think the NRL sort of not like.
This whole f**king forum is built on speculation and who said I don’t like @Poupou Escobar? He’s just a pest.

Pretty consistent semi finalist and 1 in 10 year grand finalist is something I reckon tigpies wouldn't see as a problem.

It really doesnt matter how good BA is or was as a coach. This Tigers squad, which is the strongest we have been able to drag together for 12 years, is almost to a man only there because of Benji and to a lesser degree Richo. At this stage we are all in on benji who at least was able to build a good squad culture last year. The morons at HBG are doing their best to screw it though.

Im hopeful this might be all over (for the time being) in the next 48hrs.

Guymer is actually off-contract at end of 2026.

And there has been barely a word mentioned about his contract status and future for 2027 and beyond.

Perth desperately need players & have had 40 days to look and have a crack at him and obviously ain't that interested.

You would think a squad crying out for players and young talent would be banging down the door if he was any good.

And at the same stage we haven't extended him yet either.

Purdue, Taulagi, Smith and Mariota are all off contract and they haven’t been linked to Perth either

Don’t really get your point

There’s dozens of players off contract after 2026. If the public gave a shit about them, the media would absolutely be full of rumours about their negotiations.
