No, I agree. WA League fans have waited a long time for a team again. I'm talking about the club possibly leaving too heavily towards being a re-born North Sydney and alienating the passionate WA people who aren't devout League supporters. It hasn't directly happened as yet, but I'm wary of them crossing the line and basically being a transplanted east coast team in the WA public's eyes. The very people we need to win over, virtually, from the get-go. Regardless of how they're perceived straight away, over time (we're talking years) they will be accepted as a WA team on the national stage, but it would certainly be advantageous to have them from the start.

Like I said, I was here in 1995. I know how great it can be to have a game to go to every 2nd weekend, and I also know how it feels when that's taken away and it feels like forever, with a few false dawns along the way, to return. I'm certainly grateful for it happening here again. I just hope it's done the right way for the club and the people of whom the club is meant to be representing.

Go the Perth Bears!

Yes you’re right they definitely need to lean way more Perth than north Sydney. I imagine there will for sure be people against the team at first because of the north Sydney connection just like there was with the Sydney swans when they first moved.

However I think there will be a core group of 10-15k starved rugby league fans attending games week in week out regardless. How successful the team will be more broadly in WA will depend on how well they can attract the casual sport fans and the curious, for that they really need to be seen to be Perths team.

That bumper bar slogan is an miss, let’s not lean into the “out of hibernation”. Some better options…

- Bear territory
- Born in the west
- Unleashed in the west
- Perth. Bear Country
- Beware the Bears

I hope from now they lean more into WA now that they launched the logo.

This especially means no north Sydney home games. That would be seen as a confirmation that they’re an east coast team that just happens to play in Perth. In any case that ground is not up to nrl standards. There seems to be a lot of commentary by media personalities in Sydney that its a given they’ll be playing at least one game in NS but I hope it’s just their ignorance rather than based on any truth.

For sure though they will immediately be more successful than afl expansions GWS and probably the Suns as well with bigger crowds. Though that’s a low bar to reach.

Up da mighty pirates! Pretty sure you’re the last person on this earth still talking about them.
Some of us know our history.
The Pirates crew bid tshirt was a thing of beauty. This less so, much less so.

Outside of PR & yourself are there any Western reds fans left anyway bruhz? …. also there are rumours PR wasn’t even living in Oz when the Western reds were around so not sure he even counts?… would a general sports fan in WA even realise if the new club is wearing a Norths or norths inspired jersey?
I guess you dont know much about rugby league or its fans in WA. I’m surprised lol

It’ll be fine

Even Cummins has been welcomed back into the fold

I suspect the club won’t include the bears historical records so even though 1908 will be on the collar the official start date will be 2027 and the two bears comps won’t be included (just my guess no scoops)

Being the good guys of the nrl doesn’t hurt either for fans in nsw and qld

Look at this forum re bears fans. The two highest profile ones from qld and the other central coast and neither cares about the club playing at north Sydney oval

The grounds a dump and there is no way in the world another club would ever be allowed in Sydney

Team is extention of North Sydney just playing on Perth. Logo is indication of that. Don't expect much WA focus.

Something to consider is that a key factor will be the eventual transitioning of streamlined junior RL pathways and associated infrastructures from WA feeding directly into the Perth Bears via Bears academy and other RL centric programs based in WA.

Regardless of how many kids actually graduate from junior grades to Top 30 roster spots in the future - I think there will a great sense of “home” team (perhaps from those currently on the fence) once it’s blatantly evident that these home grown WA resources will make up percentages within the “greater” Bears club (in relation to both numbers of kids and clubs directly associated under the banner).

Norths will always be providing of course but there will be a point soon where it’ll heavily swing towards WA and honestly, that’s part of the end game.

Everything else like colours, franchise brand, records will eventually dissipate away from being specific to Norths and be fully grabbed by WA - meaning it’ll be WA’s red and black colours, WA’s Bears franchise brand and logos, and WA’s history that started in NS. Time will ensure that.

Of course they will, in time.
Once the investment resources are adequately poured into managing the implemented and development systems to be able to do so.

Exact numbers will gradually increase as time passes.

Once a upon a time there were no Fijians in the comp either.. So what’s your outlook opinion based on? The next few years? Or the next few decades? Strategies were always long term.

Is this a hint that they’ll be recognising Norths’ 2 premierships and the 1908 commencement?

There are plenty of old Western Reds supporters around still. I'll occasionally see a Reds car rego plate or someone in an old Reds jersey (or even one of those retro ones released last year).
This isn’t proof, this is purley anecdotal.

Are they reds fans or fans of retro jerseys? Huge trend in owning jerseys of clubs that people do t support at the moment. Particularly heritage jerseys and particularly jerseys of defunct clubs.

there will be a largish contingent of Norths supporters who'll have come across from Sydney for the historic game who will be chanting "North Sydney! clap clap clap North Sydney!" which won't help with local acceptance.
Bra….Such a democrat/left leaning political view….

let me clean my vomit first…. That would be unacceptable just like the Dolphins fans that were chanting “Redcliffe” is game 1 of the Dolphins history which could be heard at the ground apparently but not over any broadcast and was drowned out by “Dolphins” chants

Da Swans overcame this is arguably a tougher market to do so.

How will bears succeed in producing players unlike Melbourne storm?!
