We don't have to panic re top 30 spots.
Apparently we can play the whole season with 27 players if we want.
Apparently the top 30 is not so much a numbers game but a salary cap restraint. No matter how many players you have, you just have to stay under cap. Please help me understand this especially if I'm wrong.
If what I'm reading is right then why don't we just go for 20 marquee players

I imagine that the only reason they would want to hold off on top 30 would be to have someone like Afoa taken off the development list, if he proves he's worth in the first part of the season, and upgrading him to a 2 year nrl contract.
Another reason could be to grab someone better than Bird and go for an exchange, especially if Bula's mannager want him out.
Please correct me if I'm off the mark.

I think you need 29 or 30 on the books at some point. Otherwise you would spend that extra money on the other players.

It's not a big deal though at this point of the season. I assume they can just upgrade a dev player whenever they want.

I just checked again, different source and its saying the same thing. Clubs like as many spots as they can but just can't go over cap. It seems we can have less than 30.
