The ratings were low, but as per the broadcast agreement the FTA simulcast was a two hour delay in limited markets. Anyone wanting to watch the game had already watched it on Fox/Kayo.

The equivalent is the NRL making Nine air the Dragons v Storm game on a 2 hour delay into Melbourne only. Of course the ratings would be low if that occurred, the dedicated fans would have already watched the game live on Fox/Kayo.
A hypothetical is not an equivalent.

I didn't troll anyone, you guys are the ones saying AFL ratings for a 2 hour delayed telecast in limited markets were poor. I merely pointed out the equivalent NRL ratings were zero.

All those Sydney based AFL fans didn't watch because it wasn't live. Don't watch when it's live either, lol!

Seems to be less games happening too. Rugby seems on rise actually. Means more league player actually..
Super rugby crowds are still bad they don’t release crowd figures for lots of games but they are probably up a bit but still way down from the peak

Eg Waratahs were around 25k maybe 15k now (I suspect it’s actually 12k)

Reds aren’t too bad

Ratings have always been low for union

Lions tour and World Cup will get them a sugar hit but reckon they end up with two Australian super rugby teams down the track if the comp even survives

The NRL has got off to a flying start on the back of its third Las Vegas season launch a fortnight ago.
Thursday night’s Broncos-Eels thriller attracted an average of 772,000 viewers on Channel 9, trumping the AFL’s traditional Carlton-Richmond season-opener (675,000) at the MCG.
The NRL also claimed a win on Friday night as an average of 693,000 tuned in to watch Alex Johnston’s record-breaking feat in the Roosters-Rabbitohs grudge match while the AFL attracted 557,000 on Channel 7 for the Essendon-Hawthorn showdown.
V’landys said the NRL was riding a wave of momentum and it was head office’s job to continue it.
“The ratings have never been bigger than the last two weeks,” he said.
“We are killing the AFL by hundreds of thousands. We beat them on Thursday and Friday night.
“On Thursday they had a pretty serious AFL match, but the Brisbane-Parramatta game was so far ahead it’s not funny.
“Again on Friday night, it was phenomenal. Even the Canberra-Warriors game (on Fox League) was up 10 per cent on last year.”

Pro ranks are cooked. Local rugby team has many junior squads this year. Ten years ago very few. Just anecdotal. Rugby fans generally follow anyway.

This is an NRL ratings thread. Just to clarify, it's acceptable to discuss AFL ratings here but only if you take some sort of insular Sydneycentric pride in dissing them. Bringing up any counterpoints upsets people. Cool.

speaking of things that are “centric “ ..:I just heard Eddie McChins telling his southern audience that the FTA TV rights for the NRL are worthless beyond as a vehicle to getting the Origin rights ..:

Really ? No… but it’s the kind of BS the Melbourne media like to put out there to diminish the NRL to their audience…

They love repeating this nonsense, yet the vast bulk of the rights money is fox which doesn’t even have origin. The NRL sustains origin, not the other way round. If people didn’t care about the nrl why would they care about origin?

He might have been referring to FTA from memory …. I should have specified …still, something that is clearly untrue

Both codes had national coverage yesterday across all markets
NRL 459K.. probs around 900K with STV
ALF 297K would have been lucky to crack 500K

I just got informed the fumblers ratings weren't for one game televised nationally
Apples and oranges. On Sundays different markets get different AFL games on 7

The 297k rating is for Melbourne v St Kilda which was on in NSW and VIC at 3pm

SA got North Melbourne v Port Adelaide
QLD and WA got Gold Coast v West Coast
