Some players have to stay “for love.”

I agree with this. Our problem is we consistently have too many players being difficult when it comes to re-signing with us and trying to get top dollar.

Galvin is the most obvious example. Stefano is another one. Stefano could be great in our team because he is that big hit-up style prop. The problem with Stefano is though he makes mistakes. I've watched Melbourne a bit over the past couple of weeks and he comes up with handling errors regularly.

I think those players leaving us for the dollars we would have had to pay them working out better for us.

I don’t think we need any extra time to assess Attard.

He’s not a donut.

We just need to be careful and bring him on properly.

I like the point made earlier about our window and how this reflects in our decision making.

This 900 is huge money. That be marquee.

Only a few years ago we would have panicked and swallowed the bait.

The other point, we don’t want another mbye who (lovely guy), who had an extensive playing retirement.

Or even Brooksy, who (lovely guy) spluttered his way along whilst lining his pockets with gold.

But for a time, we saw it, Brooksy was clutch. Bula isn’t.

There is no issue at all if we take up Bula's option. That is why I think it's the least risky option right now.

That will give us time to assess Attard as well.
Bulla isn’t going to want to sign for one year .. he will want at least 3.. in fact that could be one of the sticking points…You can’t just check out Attards form and if he’s ok then make bulla dissapear.. We will have 2 gun fullbacks vying for a start each week, with a combined cost of 1.2mill and climbing when we have to upgrade Attard so he doesn’t leave …. Seriously not an issue?

Anyway I think Benji will be enjoying those discussions/ non discussions with Moses throughout the Bula negotiations.. I guess Moses has to change his opinion of what Benji can say and can’t say now .. Benji won’t be giving any pleasantries out that’s for sure .. even better he would delegate one of his co coaches to talk to Moses..”sorry mate he said he’s a bit busy today and our position hasn’t changed in fact it’s likely to get worse for you unless you come around to the significantly reduced $$ by Friday..and we’re not budging on 1 year”

Here is the thing - we have an option for Bula for next year. So we can just take up that option and retain him for one extra year. We have to pay for it but it's just one year.

That gives us time to see how Attard or whoever turns out. It would even give us time with Bula to see how good he gets.

Just a million …to have a look.. I think there’s enough experience in that office to make a call which they obviously have …. and spend that $mill on players that don’t rely on being in the open unobstructed to look good and players that are more likely to create something out of nothing.

I also think spending Bula’s cash on a general round of unannounced pay rises might create some extra love for players.

Terrell deserves an extra drink for his big minutes. A chunk of cash for Maka. Luke as well.

The dragons need Bula to replace Gutho who can head to the halves. That can release Kyle to play utility from the bench.

Maka could probably play anywhere in the backline. He’d be a formidable fullback bringing the ball back as fatigue sets in.

He could be what Latrell wanted to be, the new Greg INGLIS.

Greg of course, at full flight footballing, had a ridiculous assortment of skills and abilities. All the time in the world, catch and then decide which lever to pull, like he had half an hour. Miracle player. Maka could do worse than to role model Greg.

But it all starts with the determined and prompt shafting of Bulla and his pit bull terrier Satan.

Get it done Benji, be a man, f**k them both off.

That's why this discussion is purely hypothetical. If we all could see the pathways and reserves play and train every day we could make a better assessment.
My original thought of going with Attard was based on media reports and glowing reports from the Panthers.
We had no halves at one point so we recruited several and had pathway players coming thru and ended up with a competetive and experienced and rejuvenated AD to partner Luai. Are we going to have excess dollars sitting on the bench or Reggies of halves. It's a roller coaster affair building a team and keeping under the cap. Players have to come and go and emotions shouldn't pick a squad.
Imo, the general rule is to keep your best 17 and the rest are like baggage
For those who play supercoach the theory really is an eye opener on how to build a squad. You have your best players and build your team around them.
We select these young fellas called cash cows hoping they play like champs and shore up our squad from the resr.
It's no different to the real thing, its so hard to be a friggen fantasy coach and it's just a game....how hard would it be to do the real thing.
The advantage is the real coaches can see them train, look at the body language and how they gel with team mates, plus they have several assistants.
My rock atm is a no brainer, shore up your standouts and build the team around them.

Some good points.

Did you see how Brooksy went this weekend?

The first mistake was so f**king classic Brooksy. Brought memories back.

And his clutch under the bomb, half an hour to catch it.

How he f**ked that up, a thing of beauty.

And he was one of Manlys best.

Des might be back if this keeps up. Seibs is choking heartily.

I don’t really get why people are so cool on Bula, while I don’t see him as a superstar I think he is a really good player, while his defence isn’t the greatest (defence is really a frontline responsibility, if they get to Bula someone hasn’t done their job up front), I reckon he brings a lot in attack (his mere presence behind the line is enough to cause other teams defensive headaches) and he is as good as most under the highball.

Players can’t play forever, they have to take as much as they can get, the biggest problem I see with the negotiations is that his manager loves to negotiate in public.

I'm stating that we need him. I think relying on Attard is a massive call.

The only way I could possibly see it differently is that he has signed with IM and that guy consistently screws us. The response to this though is to exercise the option in our favor.

Just to be extremely clear I am not blaming IM. I am stating Bula signing for IM is not a good sign that he wants to stay with the club.

He has been with Moses a while now, and really most of the talk about him leaving has been speculative, he has said numerous times he wants to stay. I don’t have any personal opinion of Moses, he has a job to do, just happens to have screwed the tigers a couple of times, but the Tigers aren’t the only ones 😂. It’d have to be in the back of Jahreem’s mind that his mate ain’t really kicking goals off the back of the managers advice, I think there’d have to be some significant difference in coin to make Bula leave, even more so if the Tigers can climb the ladder this year

He'd be mad not to. I think his player option is $800k. That might be fair value under whatever the new tv rights turns out to be but at the current salary cap I reckon its more than he's worth by about $150k. He's far from the worst FB going around but he's no turdesco or Walsh or Edwards. I'd rate him in the same league as Kennedy at cronulla. I think they have a similar skillset and strengths / weaknesses.

All the talk is if he signs elsewhere it'll be at the dogs. Connor Tracey has been playing the house down lately so half of me hopes he does go there just to destabilise the dogs some more
The detestable bedfellows Gould & Isaac Moses have very likely done a deal for Bula to follow the shitbag Galvin to Belmore.

Either sign now, or f**k off, you've dragged it on too long.
Heard a whisper we would sign Bongwater if Bula left which is a massive downgrade imo. Bongy is one of those players who is immense on is day which happens 2-3 times a year and has quite a few shockers in him.

If Bula does go would Taylan May at fullback be an option?
