Something MON said at that Eels forum in February, which he didnt need to but addressed anyway, so obviosuly been some noise

He wanted to make a point on the salary cap, that we dont have the money available that people think we have

and it is impossible to buy like for like

I found this talk a bit odd and similar feel to the McDonalds CEO taking a bite of his product

He's right. Back ended contracts and upgrades account for plenty of whatever cap space fans think might've been freed up by a departing player. In the case of Drown, we knew by round two that he would be leaving. We signed or extended a dozen players after that. Where do merkins think the money came from?

We have Lomax, JAC, Moses, Paulo and Matterson on big money. Sure Lomax is gone but it's not like there were any stars available at short notice to replace him with.

Can assure you JAC is not on big money , Matto is on similar money to most decent second rowers, and the point is that we have been slow and behind other clubs in securing talent when the 12 month window is available. Said it previously , we have good administrators , seems like they are not the same level as recruiters

How can you assure me when you're not a club insider or connected to JAC's financial dealings.

I appreciate you sharing your insights of pathways and so on, but in this case I believe you’re just repeating what you’ve been told.

Assuming JAC isn’t on big money, despite being one of the best wingers in the game, then maybe the same thing is happening at all these other clubs. Somehow all their players are on unders?

Dragons sign Gutho, Cook, Holmes on big 3 year deals and then signed Kolomatangi on even bigger deal to the roster and are rumoured to be about to pay close to a million for Bula if he becomes available

Dogs have Burton, Kikau, Crichton and Leo Thompson as elite signings that aren’t cheap

Roosters , usual story , if they need a player they sign elite

Souffs, now have more than their fair share of Infograph contraxts

Penrith have Cleary, Yea, Edward’s ets on decent coin

Tigers sign May, Turuva, Luai etc

yet the Eels, who have the same salary cap and should be a decent amount below the limit, seem to be unable to sign those type of players and are now competing with 2 new teams. Considering who the team lost since 2021, and who we signed since then, just seems strange it’s acceptable to the board and those in charge. Oh well, we Still support the team but it’s not really up to the standard of our competitors.

I'm probably being paranoid, but I think this is what will cost us Ryles in the long term.

I’ve always said that as long as the club is viable and financially secure, they don’t care about trophies. the also know Parra fans are dumb enough to continue showing up no matter how dire things are, knowing all this keeps them secure in their job, who is going to question Jim and his mate…..no seriously who will turn this ruderless club around, and to boot we really don’t know how Ryles will turn out, hasn’t attracted anyone as yet

Drown accepted Newcastle’s offer before round two last year. Iongi was extended in December after Lomax left.
