You haven’t a clue as to what has been discussed to date and where the negotiations are placed at the moment…they didn’t just start discussing this in Vegas

Having said that .. I’m sure the NRL won’t be making any long term calls that don’t suit them … this time …they went down that path the last time and they themselves are now much better off then back then. This war can be over at any time … thats only a declaration of victory away.. and those poll numbers keep on slipping and there are mid terms to be fought ..

I will also say if PVL wants to use any smaller than expected increase in TV money for the Super League and takes it away from the Clubs and players here , they will put him through the wood chipper … I would have no idea why he would be contemplating that if money is going to be tight
There hasn’t been any negotiations.

Exactly, everyone would have been briefed.

V`landys said recently that unlike previous negotiations where advances have been asked for on the up-coming deal the game being in such good financial health there was absolutely no need for this and placed the NRL in a much stronger place when negotiatingand with less time constraint.

My take on this is that PVL knows we can get a good deal whether we involve SL or not, however as part of his vision for the future of the game he`s exploring what they can do by including his plans for northern hemisphere League in the negotiations, he has to get the numpty`s from SL on board first, no easy task with that bunch of chuckleheads.

he NRL will consider tinkering with its Las Vegas season-opening extravaganza as it prepares to overhaul its schedule for the introduction of the Perth Bears.
For the first time since 2022, the NRL is exploring the possibility of condensing its season by a week – which could have ramifications for the American season opener in Sin City.
While no decisions have been locked in yet, the Australian Rugby League Commission will meet in coming months to determine if an NRL season which spans a mammoth 32 weeks can be trimmed.
The Bears joining the competition as the 18th team will open up flexibility for the NRL’s draw makers, who can now schedule nine games per week, if wanted, and reduce the number of byes each team has per season.

Since the Dolphins entered the league in 2023, each club has three byes across the course of a 27-round regular season.
A shorter season will also allow the ARLC to continue investing in the growth of the international game and give clubs extra preparation in pre-season.
Las Vegas could also stay in its current window – the first weekend in March – if the NRL pursues a wildcard weekend as part of an expended finals series.
“The 18th team provides us with a different set of permutations which allows us to think about the season structure,” Andrew Abdo said.
“That’s the work to be considered by the Commission in due course.”

Please, please, please don`t go down the `wildcard weekend` path, leave that for the other mob who are so desperate for content and as such are willing to make a mockery of their whole top eight format.

It`s just madness isn`t it, you make the eight (or even 7th) and then you have to play 9 or 10 to actually confirm you made the eight.
But not only that, any slim chance team 7 or 8 has of going on a run in the finals is almost dashed immediately by having to win one more game. Meanwhile it just gets easier for the top 6 sides, a week more rest and a more tired team 7, 8, 9 or10.
Have the other mob actually adopted it, surely they`re not that stupid.

Maybe they have, although let me be honest no side is winning from outside the top 4

With the extra teams top ten maintains status quo of teams who can make finals

Extra week of finals more than compensates for one less round

They didn’t go for conferences which was the original plan guess from the pushback from non Sydney clubs

having a Top 6 getting a bye Week 1 of the finals is a bit of an ordinary outcome ..I don’t know why if you finish 6th best out of 20 you deserves that, whilst 7th gets an extra in the end pretty much meaningless finals game to play … I’ve got a feeling this system won’t be around all that long

Sounds like all the potential candidates are broke

Maybe the NRL won’t be able to find a buyer and will need to beg the ABC to show a game a week for nothing…

It’s the most popular TV sport in the country now too, and no ones got any money apparently to afford to pay for it ..Alanis Morisette could write a song about that

I don’t know why PVL is acting so smug since meeting all these guys in Vegas three weeks ago and is since wanting to throw hundreds of millions of pounds at the Super League… what on earth is he thinking ?

Do you have any actual argument about where he is wrong on Paramount or Dazn?

It's known Paramount has serious financial difficulties. It's why when they made an offer for Warner Bros, it's pretty much fully backed by Oracle. It's also known that Warner Bros has a shitload of debt and losing money, which is why it's being sold. They've got bigger issues than some minor subsidiary in Australia. Go and look at ch 10s line up. It's almost exclusively Paramount TV shows and reality tv which is known to be significantly cheaper to produce.

And the owner of Dazn had to put in another billion to cover the losses. He'll want to make sure he secures rights to make that money worthwhile, but he's not going to pay overs. He's going to want deals that will be profitable so he doesn't have to keep throwing more and more money in.

I’ve responded to him twice since this joke post if you are interested

Wonder if the afl offered this as part of the last tv deal to get more dollars or just a panic reaction to the nrl grand final beating them last year

Especially when there’s a push to get our grand final moving the other way

Comments show how upset fumblers are

I think it's hilarious how much the NRL GF beating their GF has impacted them lol.

That's right. On face value it's looks like you've increased those finals places or chances of winning the comp from 8 to 10 but an actual chance has been dropped to 6.
