They were backups. Matt still is, which is good for a 21 year old. Jake is now a starter in the Super League.

I was at Parra Stadium for the game last week. I have to applaud the club for improving the game day experience as far as the set up between the leagues club and the ground. There is some things for the kids to do and a lot of colours.
I hope it wasn't just for the opening home game.

That would mean his dad would have to get another job lol. Even Kevvie was preferred f**king Kevvie ffs!!
Kevin Walters would never get an NRL job anywhere other than the Broncos. As for rep teams, coaching is irrelevant because the team isn't together long enough. A rep coach is just a figurehead, which is why they're usually just former rep players.

Matt Arthur: reading this thread you’d think it was impossible there’s a reality somewhere in between narratives.
That is, he benefited from training and exposure to NRL level training as a result of his dad *and* was talented and hard working enough to make something of that, including a shot at NRL and youth origin teams *but* not good enough (yet, if ever) to progress into an NRL level player.
Entirely uncontroversial.
The only arguable part I can see is that maybe he was given preference over better players (see R Smith). I didn’t see him against age-peers so can’t comment.

Pouciple to the rescue!!!

Pou might get upset you will take the number 1 glugger title from him.

Don't like what i and anyone else posts put us all on ignore i couldn't give a shit, create your own safe space for all i care but Pou is a big boy he doesn't need you to cup his balls at every opportunity. And after 11 year of Bea Arthur stealing a living from this club he and his untalented sprogs are all fair game.
It's got nothing to do with me. He's calling you out for being a negative whinger around here. Constantly pissing and moaning. If you don't like being criticised, you can put us all on ignore i couldn't give a shit, create your own safe space for all i care.

Smith's skills weren't good enough to be given an opportunity above Jersey Flegg. He is still a non-contributor in attack, but it matters less in our team because we have a lot of playmaking skill around the middle of the field. And Smith's effort areas off the ball complement our lack of high effort middles in general.

Are you talking about Matt Arthur? The little merkin was captain in just about every team he was in. Premiership-winning captain Andrew Ryan said some pleasant things about him: https://www.nswrl.com.au/news/2024/06/20/arthur-and-mclean-named-u19-captains/

This 'poor attitude' thing sounds like another example of tuck shop gossip you get around junior footy clubs.

My impression from meeting him was he was a self-centred turd, who thought the rules did not apply to him because he was an Arthur.

I reckon a backup is the highest Matt can probably reach - which is not bad. It's certainly more First Grade than I'll ever see!

I still think that if Jake took a few years to train, and reshape his body, he could develop into a handy lock.

Matt is probably good enough to have a 100-game NRL career, tbh.

He is a smart hooker - and he has skill.

He's (at this point in time) lanky, and physically slow (as in, he doesn't have explosive acceleration, or speed to dart out of dummy-half and make big metres), but he could still have a solid career.

He's young.

Smith has improved greatly but still the worst dummy half in the NRL. Hopefully TDS gets more game time as he matures. At only 21 he still has a lot of development to go. He will be a genuine star.

He is the worse only because you were wrong about him thats all..

He has a simple game plan which seems to work at another club...

Doesn’t lanky mean tall and skinny? He looks the opposite to me. Agreed he is slow. If he doesn’t make it, that will be the reason, not anything to do with his commitment, which appears to be exemplary.
