I'm curious to know more from your "source".
When the first stage of the metro opened, (Tallawong to Chatswood) the line took over the Epping to Chatswood section of the Sydney trains line, and this wasn't an issue. The tracks and wheels on the metro haven't needed to be replaced for that section. The trains on the Bankstown section are running on the same track gauge as the old line for both sections. I'm intrigued as to why this has now become an issue and would like to learn more.

I will try to find more information on this. The Metro has been closed for many weekends since it opened which is unusual for a new rail line. Apparently it has all been due to this issue where the vibration and noise occurring between track and wheels are not acceptable levels. The guy I spoke to was a fitter and turner so it all got too technical for me.

As I stated above, the line closures have been more due to testing for the extensions to the line, rather than any operating issues. Or so we have been told. It seems to run perfectly fine during weekdays though?

However, I was on the Metro last weekend, and it DOES rock and roll a bit on certain sections of the line while travelling at 100 km/h.
No doubt, this would add to track wear.
Otherwise, it's generally a fast and smooth ride.

Of course it is!

I agree with your frustration with how often it is shutdown.
Bart may laugh at your post but that is only because he defends the current govt at all times and likes to try and humiliate me by clicking on stupid emoticons.

I use the Metro often on weekends and the number of shutdowns is incredibly annoying.

Point in case.
When the Chatswood - Sydenham extension was in testing, the metro was still mostly in service from Tallowong to Chatswood. Commuters were hoarded off the train at Chatswood, and the trains would continue onto Sydenham for their testing.
For some inexplicable reason, TfNSW and the current govt have decided no, we need to shut the whole line down for testing. For weekend after weekend.
What is even more diabolical is that the metro will be shut down for the whole Easter weekend.
Whose f**king brain-dead decision was this?

This whole Bankstown extension has been royally f**ked by Labor.
Don't get me started on Sydney Metro West (which has been delayed by 2 years and will cost billions more), Parramatta Light Rail Stage 2 which has been cut in half and will end in the middle of nowhere, Western Sydney Airport metro delayed and in court, the debacle with the Great Western Highway and cancellation of the tunnel build. The cancellation of the Beaches link tunnel from Northbridge to Seaforth. The Mona Vale Rd upgrade. The list goes on and on and on.

Labor have been great fast forwarding the approval of new housing approvals to solve the housing crisis. However, they don't understand that the transport infrastructure also needs to be provided to accommodate hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of new residents.
We will just fall back into the same shithouse city we ended up with when they ripped out all the old tram lines in the 50's and 60's.

I was laughing at the post, because it was a good (humorous) reply to your post, claiming it's shut for "testing" - and not unofficially closed for the issue that FP has been intimating might be at play.

Seems like those rumors about tracks needing to be replaced aren't true at all.
Well, so the NSW Govt are telling us via an official ministerial media release.

And go figure?
Former corrupt and sacked transport minister, and vocal opponent of metro while in opposition, is now flouting herself around social media singing its praises.
f**king politicians!!

Member for Summer Hill, Jo Haylen said:
“When the Southwest Metro opens, travel will be transformed, with a 12‑minute trip from Marrickville to Gadigal and a train every four minutes in the peak. It will give people in the southwest fast, easy access to the rest of the city, including places like Macquarie University, creating new opportunities for students, workers and families.”
“Testing is well advanced, with the system now being put through its paces as we move closer to opening day. Thank you to the community for their patience during the disruption of construction and closures – that patience is now paying off with real progress being made.”

And, let's blame bin chickens, possums and kittens for the delay... :ROFLMAO:

FMD!

How bin chickens, kittens and possums test Sydney’s delayed metro line

Completing the delayed final stretch of Sydney’s $30.4 billion M1 metro rail line in the southwest has thrown up a long list of challenges in turning a more than century-old heavy railway into one for driverless trains.

Add to that list the city’s bin chickens – otherwise known as ibises – and kittens, which have strayed into the 13-kilometre rail corridor between Sydenham and Bankstown. Kittens have had to be rescued, as did a bird with eggs which nested in a mechanical gap filler on a platform.

“We get wildlife – it’s one of the challenges of the environment you work in,” said Kate Ford, a contract delivery director for Metro Southwest. “There’s been a number of incidents with ibises. We’ve had a possum on one of the stations.”

High security fencing along both sides of the line stopped a significant amount of wildlife, but Ford said not much could be done to keep out birds such as ibises which, unfortunately, had been hit by trains.
An intrusion detection system along the corridor is targeted mostly at keeping people out.

In a historic moment for the final stage of the M1 line, a train carried passengers, including politicians from Bankstown to Marrickville, at up to 100 kilometres an hour on Tuesday.

In the meantime, while all the contracts previously signed by the former govt for Sydney Metro West have been completed (tunnelling and station boxes) the line sits there dormant with absolutely no timeframe of a restart to complete the line. It's f**king shameful by Labor.

I'm not sure Jo Haylen was ever found corrupt @Suitman ?

You wouldn't want your political anger costing the owners of these forums a libel suit, I'm sure...

Lol. It's not anger. It's calling out shit and dishonest, and lying politicians.
I do it for both sides.
But, you do Labor.
How about you discuss the issues I raised re Sydney Metro, and the delays and cost over runs?

I see no one has mentioned that tracks needed to be replaced in the City Circle last weekend, leading to its complete closure for the weekend, with works still ongoing on Monday morning causing significant early morning peak period delays to the T2, T3 and T8 lines. I didn't see anyone complaining about that.
Yet, apparently the metro is shit.
Go figure?

It's called slander and libel, when you call a public figure corrupt and there has been no such finding.

You should know better. And you should give more respect the forums and their owners.

The bold bit is the bit you need to have a big think about @Suitman .

If not typed through anger, then what exactly...? What emotion would make you disregard the future wellbeing of these forums with such potential lawsuit-attracting slander?
