Bit harsh. Its hardly a clear cut issue. Circumstances could swing it either way.

I disagree. The idea that we could have a trial for our best or near best 17 and have it be totally useless and not be able to take anything away from it is straight wrong IMO. If you watch you can learn things about players definitely.

I dont think trials are vital or that the results matter or anything like that but again, if we are playing an NRL trial i think its idiotic to say you can't learn anything from it ever, completely wrong in my books. Im definitely watching it and probably will draw conclusions about certain things from it, as will Ivan according to his comments on the weekend.

Is Martie saying theres nothing that can be learned from trials? I agree thatd be unreasonable.

Im just saying "do the benefits outweigh the risks?" is a very reasonable question and could go either way.

I have always found trials good for: Young players looking to impress.Eg Phillips
Players fighting over a spot or hoping to break into the side. Eg Jenkins
Players coming back from a long injury lay-off. Eg Tom Flegler

For the rest its just blowing off the rust and hoping to avoid injuries.

I think the risk question silly. It can happen to any player in any game. If it’s a wear and tear injury or some kind niggle that is made worse by the intensity of a game I’d rather that come up on trial game than a real nrl game.

if it’s a random injury then it could happen anytime. Most established nrl players don’t even play a full trial, is that a big risk is it? It’s a dumb take imo

So why did we rest our players for the Cows trial then? Why did we bring everyone off halfway through the Tigers trials.

Theres a level of value you get out of trials. The risk of injury isn't huge but trials do increase it. So you balance that. Two trials. Too risky for not enough benefit. Half the Tigers trial was considered the sweet spot for what Ivan wanted to get out of pre season. The idea that theres no balance to be had here doesnt play out in how every team approaches these things.

The main guys play 1 trial every year and come off at half time like they did this year, it’s not resting to not play them in games they never play in. The fact they do it the same way every year shows they See value in it or they’d try something else..

Anyway that’s just the injuries I’m still waiting to hear why a coach using trials to finalise his 17 is such a big problem. Your boy Marty is saying dopey shit like that when we have the goat coach saying Mikys trial form was a big factor in him getting back into the team. So yes to answer your previous question it was about more than just injuries. Idiots literally think nothing that happens in a trial is worthwhile or informative at all.

Trials suck. I hate them, but they are important, it’s basically a free swing to test defensive structures and attacking patterns.

It’s more than just giving individual players a run.

but I don’t like them.
