I've done both of those things. I've also been in the military. Developing skills happens best in controlled environments where you are free to make mistakes. On game day, under pressure, you don't get that luxury. Anyway, games only go for 80 minutes. Players spend hours every week at training. It's chalk and cheese. Games are like the test that occurs to validate the learning.

His tackle effectiveness is about as good as Koroisau's since he joined Wests.
