2026 TV and Streaming Ratings thread

Why? They were head to head in that hour and 5-6pm is more important for networks as it's the news lead-in.

I know you want to think that hundreds of thousands more were watching at 5:30pm than 3:30pm but it's not like masses of people were stuck at work and were denied access. It was a public holiday. If you wanted to watch it, there was really no restriction in turning it on at 3pm.

The only major spike in the ratings would be in the 5 minutes at the end whilst people who despise AFL were waiting for it to be over because they wanted the 7 news.

Tipping Point won that timeslot. Don't tie yourself up in knots trying to debate it with conspiracy theories.

So no more comparing 3 hour AFL blocks to 2 hour NRL blocks because it's impossible to know! Great! We can stop hearing about fumbleball finally!

I had to explain that to you earlier on the other thread about NRL games hypothetically airing on Sunday Night on 10 when you said that NRL would be smashed in Perth and I told you it wouldn't be primetime there.

For the record, it's still a half hour clash with Tipping Point in Adelaide. AFL coverage stopped at 5:30 there.
But but but, there were 84k drones at the geeeeeeeee did'nt you know?

Another easy win to the NRL over the fumblers & their reach around or what ever its called
667K for them
699K for the NRL

It'd be well over 100K when STV is added ....

when will they win something ?
tonight ?

Collingdong V someone
Broncos V Cowboys

The only difference is in the ratings is BVOD. 7 needs to fix their 7+ platform as it is far behind 9NOW in terms of usability.
7+ worked completely fine for me during the Cricket season. It's not like it's going to magically make fans either. You may get some people moving over from Digital TV, but this is just moving viewers from one medium to another. My theory is the AFL's audience skews older as a percentage - as seen in most TV data. I don't think they know how to use Streaming BVOD or have much interest in learning.

Yeah I also watched the cricket on 7+ without any dramas.

Channel 7 does indeed skew older than 9. Look at the News 25 to 54 demos for last night - 25.8% for 7, 29.1% for 9. More over 55s watch 7 than 9.

Then compare last nights demos between games:
AFL's 25 to 54 demo = 34.6%
NRL's 25 to 54 demo = 37.6%

But it also gets bigger the younger you go
AFL's 16 to 39 demo = 15.6%
NRL's 16 to 39 demo = 21.6%

If you could get your hands on the 18 to 24 young adult and 12 to 17 teen figures, you'll see the gap gets wider the younger you get old.

Basically, the NRL now outrates the AFL in pretty much every demographic but even more the younger the viewer base is.

So nko11, you're right - 7 & AFL viewers skew older, hence lower BVOD take up.

Why not congratulate the NRL instead? Or do you feel the need to defend the AFL everytime?
I'm not congratulating or defending anybody. Just providing some context. I don't watch either code via FTA streaming but have found 7+ hard to use while watching other programmes, experiencing shows freezing and restarting randomly, whilst 9NOW offers a largely seamless experience.

And yet when I watched the Cricket I didn't have any issues. Sounds like you're making excuses.

100k more people watching Rugby League on Thursday night than Fumble (two sydney teams vs their mega opening game of Temu Magic Round) - on FTA channels only. Will be a bigger distance between the two codes if we could get PayTV figures, where we know NRL outrate AFL.

But But But crowds... well 49k - 24k = 25k. Doesn't make up the 100k shortfall.

Ultimately, more people are engaged to Rugby League than AFL. Time and time again, practicely every single time, this holds true.

It's an indisputable fact that the difference between the two ratings results is BVOD. I'm offering an explanation as to why that may be the case. I don't work for the AFL or NRL and am a club member for teams in both leagues, so I'm an impartial observer.
Keep trying. 100k more people watched rugby league over Fumble last night. More if we knew Pay TV figures. That is an indisputable fact. Suck it up princess.

Or watch it on Fox/Kayo instead which is what I believe is happening. It's a pity that DAZN has chosen to keep its ratings secret so everyone is in the dark.
It's only recently that the Foxtel ratings have gone that way. We have multiple years of data where it was publicly available when the 7+ app was also active (2017 to 2024).

Or are you now going to claim that the 7+ app only became shit after the Foxtel ratings went dark? Which conspiracy is it today?
