In reality the teams in the top half of the table field at least 3/4 alpha type rep level players, we are stacked with 1 and a bunch of ok players who get found out as some are still inexperienced , and a lot will remain good reserve graders.

That’s recruitment 101 and a real need by our club, we have left it to a time when there are 2 new teams to compete with as well as underwhelming overall performance , a difficult time .

I would say two. Iongi would be pretty close to playing Origin if he wasnt hurt, especially with Walsh and Ponga out.

The other thing is the depth. Teams like the Warriors are absolutely stacked with depth in every position. Yet we always seem to be a player or two shallow.

I love Iongi, he’s a future rep player no doubt, but he’s not at that level yet

Hammer would be next in line, and a shuffle of back line players where Holmes could play would probably be the next option.

Walsh will be back for origin anyway

Do you really think we just waited? We are obviously chasing players (we were after Koloamatangi, who was off the market in January) but we want to maximise the talent we fit under the cap.

If you're an Auckland-based backup player, how much more than minimum salary would you need to move to Australia? The conversion rate is an extra 20% right now, plus they pay less tax and things are cheaper over there because everyone (except pro athletes) is broke.
