Your team's "ones to watch" in 2007

Hey all,

Who, in your opinion, are your players to look out for in 2007? Who is primed for a big season? Are they someone who's been a solid first grader, but is ready to explode into something bigger? Are they someone from reserve grade ready to take the step up? Or are they a young kid who you think will be able to come out of nowhere and grab a spot in first grade?

I'll start the ball rolling by who I think for South Sydney:

Manase Manuokafoa - At only 22 and having a solid, if not spectacular year and a half behind him in first grade, I feel big Nelson is ready to make his mark. Playing with a decent forward pack for once, the competition for spots and the guidance of guys like Kidwell and Asotasi should see this bloke improve greatly. Used to watch him and a young bloke by the name of S.B.W. go at it in Flegg - was always a good stoush. At 190-odd centremetres and 115kgs, he's certainly big enough.

Scott Geddes - The poor bloke was earmarked for SOO selection by Phil Gould in the 2003 pre-season and that seemed to put the mocker on him as he's been constantly injured ever since. Big, strong and with a good offload and speed for a man his size, he has all the makings of a modern day prop and if Souths have a good season could press for rep selection.

Beau Champion - Winning the Peter Sterling medal doesn't always mean a direct path to first grade but young Beau certainly has some talents. Had a disappointing year due to injuries and being moved about, but the kid has a lot of class for someone his age and is a real leader. Would like to see him get a run at Fullback at some point if the Peach is injured, because that's his true position. Is a competitor, has a good step and nice passing game.

Other ones to watch include Eddie Paea, Sam Huihahau and Dave Tyrell, however they're probably a could of years off yet. Tyrell has a lot of class though.

Other teams?

Obvious ones for brisbane are Greg Eastwood, Joel Moon, and Steve Micheals. Look for big improvements in David Stagg and Karmichael Hunt as well.

Roosters are Nate Myles, Iosia Soliola, George Ndaira, Setaimata Sa, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Josh Lewis & Jamie Soward. Also watch to see Joel Monaghan try & assert himself in the backline in trying to replace Cross.

Ndaira would be my pick of that lot. He reminds me a bit like Robbie Farah.

Massive call! All I know is that he ripped Manly PL apart a few weeks ago.

For Manly:

Brett Stewart
Michael Robertson
George Rose
Matt Ballin
Mailangi Styles
Adam Cuthbertson
Travis Burns

I assumed this meant those who would emerge as great players next year. Tongue has already emerged as a superstar.

If you mean in the semis, believe it or not but he didn't play in that game. That was Bronx Goodwin who ripped you apart.

Zillman tore the Sharks a new one in round 21 or so.... scored 5 tries and set up another 6.

Brett Morris, Wes Naiqama, Luke MacDougall-
Our back three will be one to watch next year I feel, with Barrett finally gone (I give him props for his form right now, but he does limit our creativity a fair bit) and hopefully a settled halves pairing of Hornby and Head (Gasnier in the centres please), I think we can finally break the shackles and start scoring some points. With the quality of our backline we should score a lot more points than we do, we mainly win games on defence, but I have faith we'll be a much better attacking side next season.

Sims-
Next year will be his year to step up with Bailey gone.

 that'll put the cat amongst the pidgeons skeepe
im not willing to go near that far yet with Zilly, but each to their own

One's to watch for canberra imo:

- William Zillman (not going to say anything as skeepe has, except this kid is extremely talented)
- Bronx Goodwin (awesome little fullback in the making, can put on a bog shot too for a small guy)
- Todd Carney (will come as a real champion player, with the team in his control and no jason smith to hog the ball, he will flurish, if we finish inside the top 6 (big call in itself) carney will go damn close to the Dally M medal)
- Josh Miller (injured most of this year, will be chopping at the bit to get back, im predicting a break out year from him)

For other teams:

George Ndaira (Roosters)
Paul Ation (Penrith)
David Taylor (Brisbane)

There's been very big raps on Israel Folau for some time and talk that he'll be ready to step up to first grade next year. The one who's played a few games now but is getting better and better and will continue to do so is Antonio Kafusi and i don't think there's any doubt he's a representative player of the future. Smith Samau is another to look out for.
