3 year deal?????? didn't they watch him in the first half???? the inmates are running the asulym.

Finchy was getting every Panfer player running at him because he was our only go to man last night. Previously we had Pig and Tim to share the load with the kicking game.

Keating (M or K) will need to take some pressure off him and put their hands up in future games otherwise he'll be a simple target for sides every game.

Well the money he will be on and a three deal that is what most top playmakers cop, it is not all his fault as we still look poorly coached with no set plays or structure.

Well better judges than me have him down for SoO No.7. So it goes without saying that his contract $$ would be on par with any elite player of that level.

FMD.

If he didn't play himself out of Parra's no 7 last night he must have played himself out of NSW.

Sammut blitzed him.

Which is why you shouldn't pay overs for experience, only ability.

I think he's allright as an average halfback but thats about it. However, the guy does try his heart out.

If he can help some of our younger halves, we're set.

Bingo!! his first half was woeful, found Wesser on the full with every kick and his options stunk. His second half was much better but he still took a lot of wrong options. Origin halfback  give the Toads the trophy now.

if he gets picked for SOO it'll be because: 1) NSW have nothing 2) Gus has ridden him into it

I like him - he tries hard - he's passionate - he's gutsy ..... but he's not overly skillful

Yeah he might be able to help some young guys come through with good support - BUT If he gets a sizable contract for 3yrs then he might also make it impossible for us to keep young guys

That is my main worry, looks like he has said to Parra managment 3 yr deal or i'm walking. And of course we panic and throw the kitchen sink at him. Resigning him for that long may cost us Mortimer or Kelly.

They sure do... there was almost some punch ups tonight amoungst fans

Altho I must say though that perhaps Pete if you stopped on about 'Tim' and 'golden child' that perhaps your comments may be a little better received? I don't mean to be rude or anything but it seems every week I read a very similar set of comments from you and they frequesntly stating the same thing over and over - we get it....

Hellsy, you take me far too seriously....You are not being rude..you have too much 'class' for that.
BUT is it is okay for posters to continually praise Tim in the belief that he was the greatest thing since sliced bread..when I can't offer a view because I have an opposite OPINION?
I feel like I am the bloke who yelled out "Look, the emperor has no clothes on" when everyone sees him " dressed up in a brand new suit"..

Pete you know what would be nice if you stopped bitching about no one letting you have an opinion f**k no ones saying you cant or they are doing is arguing the other side which for some reason you thinks is attacking you personally get over it its a public forum your opinion will most probably be scrutinized...

I think it's got a lot more history than just this thread, and the people responding to the opinions presented have to have just as hard a look at themselves and how personal they make the discussions in the first place...

Group mentality at it's finest, just in this case the majority opinion on the issue was not correct, and some people like to gang up on the minority opinion because it's easier to harm the messenger than look inside oneself. PP's only giving back what is (and was) directed his way, but in doing so seems more of a target than the people whose habit is to continue to shoot arrows? Just my opinion ;-).

Bottom line is Finchy is our number 7 this season, and probably for one or two more while the next crop of younger ones come through. I think he'll make a better colleague/influence for them then Riddell seemed to be for Tim Smith anyways, and hopefully the next young halves can have a more successful shot at grade than Tim's.

I dont believe thats the case it think its just Pete not happy that other people dont see his point and instead of discussing the points he makes he whinges that he cant have an opinion...

Take it with a grain of salt then..Don't get sucked in....
You can have your opinion..same as I can have mine...and I am not whinging if you DON'T agree with me. Of course not...
It is MY OPINION that Tim Smith, apart from a stellar 2005 'home and away' season, could not adjust his game to IMPROVE in the following seasons and became a passenger to the team anywhere away from the attacking quarter.
His contribution - away from that area - in both attack and defence was negligible..and because of that, he became a luxury the team could no longer afford to have.
League is a 17 man TEAM game..no room for blokes who aren't pulling their weight.
Anyway he (Smith) is gone now.."The King is dead, long live the king"... Finch is the driver of the team..and in my opinion once again, should be made captain of the team. He seems to do most of the yakking anyway.
Might allow Cayless more time to concentrate on his own game. I thought Nathan went a little better last night..as did Fuifui...

Let me pick apart your post... I'll use Finch tonight as an example...

Where is Finch Positioned in defence pete? thats right where Tim SMith was and who scored tonight thanks to finch? Tony Pulatua.. So you cant say Smith was any worse then Finch there..

How many Bloody 40/20's has Finched kicked???

Smith had a better long kicking game then Finch atleast he can kick into touch..

From now on if i was Finch i would let Burt take the long kick.. Ok i wouldnt even kick the ball again...

That's where you are getting your knickers in a twist.
I am NOT comparing Finch and Smith. I had my thoughts about Smith well before Finch even CAME to the Club....
My opinion is on SMITH...no one else. Whether or not you agree with them doesn't concern me.
But, as an exercise, and be truthful to yourself try this quick quiz....If the Eels still had Tim Smith..and had the opportunity to sign either Thurston, Prince, Cronk, Head, Sammutt, Mullen, Pearce, Luke, Carney, Hornby or Gidley..would you still have stuck with him, because in my opinion he was way below them in ability and all round game.
His career was in a time warp. He had not improved one iota from his home and away season in 2005. And if you don't improve, you go backwards..and that's what he was doing...AND each of the players listed are better players now than when they started..

I'm comparing him.. Tim smith gets compared to Sterlo why cant we compare him to other halfbacks??

I would have choosen the 3 from QLD over Smith i would have choosen alot more over our current halfback...

Ok no worries. All my thoughts were that perhaps your posts are being read defensively as that is how you are portraying them
