De Gois: Buy of 2009?

Did anyone watch the Sharks v Raiders game last night? De Gois has got to be one of, if not the form hooker in the NRL. I was really impressed with his work rate, in particular his dummy half running, and his defence.

He is a great buy for us next year

He looked good last night, we will definitely need him to play well next year if he is going to replace what Danny has been doing for us this year.

I totally agree. He has been outstanding since we announced his signing.Hopefully he brings this great form with him next year,if he does i think the post buderus era may be be a little smoother than i'd anticipated.

I am really excited about this signing.

Don't want to get to far ahead of ourselves but yes he could be Buy of 2009.

He definitely has the potential to be the signing of 09. Looking forward to him being in the red and blue that's for sure.

i hope this thread doesn't jinx it, Cross was one of the form props of season last year and it's a shame it hasn't carried over...yet

If we can get him to develop a kicking game he'd be one of the premier hookers, not that he isnt in the top 8 or so now.

like johns bedsy will never be replaced. No offence but i hate the word, in some ways yes he is "replacing" bedsy but there is only one. I think his loss will hurt us more than johns imo smith has a real job on his hands. We really as we have done this year, need to restucture the whole team. You cant take johns an buderus out of a club team in the space of two years an have them play the same way. The new era of mullen, de gios and gidley will really have to take over. There going to be our three big playmakers next season they will decide ho we roll.

Scotty will be calling the tunes next season. Mullen is Scotty's deputy dawg - always has been - always will be.
Mullo has the athletic ability and pure class, but Scotty is the brains of the outfit.

Sorry Roopy, but I don't think Dureaus decisions with the ball have been all that smart so far this year. Would like to see him be a bit more patient in his next outing. None of this kicking the ball dead on the 3rd or 4th tackle when we've got the opposition under the pump like he did against the bulldogs.

He deserved to be dropped after that effort.

Roops you draw some very long bows when it somes to scott dureau. Are you related to him?!
no.
I don't think it's a long bow to say he will take control of the team on the field.
He is a halfback and has been taking control of teams under coaches instructions for 5 years at least. In the lower grades he has been great at it - and if you examine his record you will see he was the main player maker in our 2004 SG Ball title winning side - main playmaker in our 2006 Flegg side that only lost a few games all season and main playmaker in our 2007 PL side that was top of the table for a good part of the season.

While i don't have the stats to prove it, sides with Dureau as halfback and calling the shots have won at least 2/3 of games during his career.

Whether he can do his stuff consistantly at firstgrade level is not certain, but his 'stuff' is taking over and calling the shots - that's what he does.

From what I saw prior to his leg injury this season I have no reason to doubt Roopy's thoughts on Dureau just yet...

I didn't think his form last year was quite as good as it was made out to be.

This year he has spent most of the season injured. He had a shocker in his comeback game against Brisbane... meh, he's a big ungainly prop who hadn't played NRL all season. Then after that gallop he had a terrific game in our win against the Roosters--a better performance than his overhyped effort in last year's grand final imho. He followed that up with possibly the best game of his career in city v. country. He was a little rusty coming back from another injury stint last week but has gone on to hold his own in Origin. Looks like he might have picked up some more niggles, but if he can string some injury-free footy together, the first Roosters game and the city/country game make me think he'll end up playing his best footy for us.

He will never be worth what we paid for him, plain and simple. But I was hoping for a better rub of the green than the 4 games he has managed for us?
