Good thinking by Souths and great promotion by memberships. They're clearly thinking ahead and if they can get their form on the field sorted out will probably be the number one Sydney club in a few years. I wish the Parramatta board would think along those lines instead of sitting back and whingeing about the pokie tax all the time.

couldnt agree more.

souths will break 30,000 crowds down the track with their current marketing

that would be a real poke in the eye for people who say sydney has too many RL clubs and even when they were kicked out of the competition

it is a marketing ploy.

DO you think it will work.

I think it will alienate some fans from outside the metropolitan areas. Why would I buy a Wests Tigers membership while living in Brisbane, when I may only see 1-2 of their home games a year and only 1-2 of their away games?

It's not a financially wise move by myself is it? And there'd be plenty of others in the same boat.

It's a completely moronic concept.

Obviously you wouldn't. But then you're not somebody who is investing much money into the club so what does it matter.

But for fans who are considering buying a membership it may be the icing on the cake to do so. As Dally said, it's only going to increase the chances of getting memberships... it's not going to cost the club much either because it's just a trial game that would normally be played in the country anyway.

Memberships will take off if clubs give enough incentives for their fans to become members. Including free entry to a trial game in their heartland is a perfect idea.

LOL@ Madunit trying to bitch about Souths but everyone disagrees. Madunit you are against the idea because Souths came up with it LOL.

Personally great idea.... to me it is a reward for season ticket holders.
Where did I bitch about Souths?

This is an idea that is being trialled for a reason.

Sure this instance is just for a trial, but the concept is obviously also on trial to be considered in the future.

ST holders get rewarded by having a ticket at all the clubs home games already, why should matches be made exclusive just to them in the future.

Nah, I think you are assuming too much here. They won't make an NRL game exclusively for members, they would risk losing too much money. There would be no benefit in doing that. Season ticket holders are already guaranteed a seat. The only reason they are doing this for a trial is because Redfern Oval has such a small capacity and if they didn't hype up a trial in some way they'd risk playing in front of less than 5000.

Souths are taking a trial to Coffs Harbour as well and as a member, you could blow up and say that this makes you have to travel too far away from the home ground. Reality of the situation is that they are just trials and the club is just trying to make them interesting and individual so that they get more bums on seats and also glean whatever marketing benefit they can from them at the same time. There is no hidden agenda here.

If that happens we will all happily eat our words!

Souths are safe, there are some though who aren't heading in the same direction.

Btw nice little announcement to start the membership push for 09

interesting that Souths were pushing memberships in Perth as well this year I think they picked a few up as well.
When you consider the AFL clubs here have memberships of 30,000 40,000 people, never understood why the RL clubs never pushed being a football club member

I couldnt give a f**k about Souths, I'm not a member, but if my club agrees to this sh*t and makes me not welcome at one of their games, trial or not....well they can go and get rooted.

Bad comparison. It's a different type of membership.

Even in RL clubs "membership" means different things. Most people think that footy clubs membership=season ticket holder. This is not the case.

Tell me dally, what's the point in buying a ST when I may only see 4 games (2 home and 2 away) a year?

What benefit do I get from that? If it's anything like every other ST I have had with the Wests Tigers, it means I get a $20 hat, a keyring and a christmas card with all the players photocopied signatures on it.

I wouldn't call that bonusses, I'd call that a massive wank.

This concept doesn't make people buy ST. It will alienate the members who either can't afford to pay that large amount of money up front (Yet probably attend half their teams games every year) as well as alienating the teams fans who don't live near the city which their team plays from.

I would be game enough to guarantee undoubtedly, that this concept would see about a massive downturn in crowd figures, a very marginal increase in ST sales and a massive decrease in the amount of revenue created by the game.

You are a pretty dumb piece of work aren't you??

A game at Redfern Oval is likely to sellout if it was entry to all yes?

Now many of those people would be going along because they want to go down to redfern and have a sentimental day out. Souths are rewarding those who purchase a season ticket by letting them take part in a significant day out at the football.

This idea is to spur as many people into buying a season ticket, instead of just popping their head in.\

Souths have over 6000 members and the knowledge of them getting to see an extra home game at their spiritual home will get people signed up quick smart, and may well encourage a few more to get thier first season ticket.

The idea is obviously not targeted at West Tigers fans living in brisbane.

You f**king spastic.

Agreed completely!

Support your club

Support the game

Become a member!

...easy

I do support my club, I do support the game.
I have a child playing, and am involved in the running of a jnr team.
I add to my teams crowds figures, purchase merchandise and patronise the JVs leagues clubs.
I was a RLFC member of both JV clubs, now only one.

I support my club.

Dont tell me to support my f**kin club!

But I wont be blackmailed into purchasing a "membership" which isnt a membership at all where WTs are concerned, its a season ticket.
Members of real clubs actually get a say in the running of that organisation, WTs members dont, they get a season ticket, a poster, cap and fridge magnet...whooo!
Thats not suitable for me. I dont give a f**k about anyone else.

Now my clubs being party to something that states Im not welcome.

Thats wrong.

Its a good idea, some of these people whinging about the players lost to the uk and rugby are obviously not members. If every club had 15000 members they could raise the cap and keep some of these players. The only down side is having to sit in a small stadium close to tigers fans .
