Now Manly will get punished for success and have their players slowly poached away.

Now Manly will get to face the horrible reality that's encountered recent winners of the premiership in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canterbury and the Roosters.

Thanks to our grossly unfair salary cap they can now prepare to lose at least one big star and host of young players on the rise and a couple of solid veterans.

Watch for the stock of guys like Robertson, Matai, Williams, Ballin and G Stewart to rise. Come next year or the year after prepare for the sickening period when your CEO says "We just couldn't mount an offer to realistically match what Williams and Robertson were offered. We are sorry to let them go." Or the day you wake up and realize Matai or Stewart have signed massive deals with Souths. Then someone like Kite, Watmough or even Orford will go to Super League. All of a sudden the young side full of promise you saw win a grand final has been completely transformed.

Make hay while the sun shines. The next year or so you will still be in with a decent shot at the comp but all the while you will be on the wane as players keep leaving the club.

That's the stupid nature of this socialistic salary cap. Once you reach the top you can never keep improving.

You're upset that players are going to be poached FROM Manly? Justice if you ask me.

Ummm... Have you considered that may happen even without the salary cap. Without the Salary cap you have the same sides at the top end of the table, and they would NOT develop all of the players.

People have this unrealistic expectation that if there was no salary cap that teams would concentrate on their own players which is far from the case. Do you think rich teams would not be poaching the Manly players now?

Manly's best players are in their backs. They have them all signed to long-term deals. They are safe. Melbourne are still going to be the team who get's poached mostly for next year.

If Robertson / Williams ARE poached, we have Bani waiting in the wings so to speak as well. Centers, we have Neumann.

It's not about singling out one club in Manly. This could happen to any club that wins the comp.

2009
Adam Cuthbertson
Glenn Hall
Heath L'Estrange
Matt Orford

contract to end 2010
Jason King
Jamie Lyon
Steve Matai
Josh Perry
Glenn Stewart
Anthony Watmough

Thats some pretty good talent coming off contract.

But the team aren't "big name superstars" in the way the Storm have them. That will be the difference.

We are like The Bulldogs were 1/2 a decade ago. The family club in my opinion. It's the reason players used to STAY at The Bulldogs. Unfortunately, and as the players over there (Belmore) say - that culture for them has changed....hence players leaving.

I think we have the capacity to keep that culture in us. Players like Beaver coming back from the ESL will ensure that.

Anyone notice Ben Kennedy last night? We keep ours around. Hoppa / Hill was there as well.

Actually - a lot of you may not know, but Travis Burns was flown down as well to be with the boys. Monaghan / Hicks and that were there too.

Doesn't matter. You'll be paying more for your stars and in turn it will be harder keep those lesser known players. Conversely those lesser players will rise in value making it harder to keep the stars. Look at Brisbane. We have lost Boyd, Kemp, Ennis, Moon, Hannant and Eastwood. You lose guys at all levels. Yes we bought Falou but even if we hadn't signed him we probalby would have held on to only a couple of those players. We've been upgrading contracts for all our players the last couple of years. No one is being paid less. All your players put pressure on the cap.

I'd love to see now much this costs:-

01. Karmicheal Hunt
02. Steve Michaels
03. Justin Hodges
04. Israel Falou
05. Nick Kenny / Craig Frawley
06. Darren Lockyer
07. Peter Wallace

You guys are doing just fine thank you.

Can't we let the Manly fans enjoy the win for now?

Not even 24 hours has passed and we're subject to another thread that only adds to the overwhelming negativity that has permeated through the game during the year... all on a day that should be about the positives for Manly fans and the club, not the negative.
