Souths, and it wont take 10 years

I reckon once Toyota pulls the plug on the Cowboys (only a matter of time since they have posted their first loss in their history), it won't be long until the Cowboys are back under the ownership of Newsfilth.

Nothing can be surer.

From the list posted a few weeks ago detailing the losses football clubs were making, you can include every club apart from Brisbane as a likely chance of going broke.

The list with the losses before including the huge part of the income that is leagues club money?

It's been "plainly obvious" for years and still hasn't happened. And as for "topped up by leagues clubs" why do you think Leagues clubs exist????

I know why leagues clubs exist but the issue is how will leagues clubs continue to top up football clubs when they are facing declines in revenue themselves. Its putting financial strain on clubs whether you choose to bury your head in the sand about it or not.

The reason that almost all the Sydney clubs are still around today has more to do with the fact that the games administrators are to scared to make the tough decisions that need to be made and the game is suffering for it. Salary cap concessions can't be introduced, the cap can't be raised and players leave for other codes because the cap has to tailor for the lowest common denominator in terms of clubs being afford to actually pay the salary cap.

I get really upset the hear the nrl teams are in trouble.
Isn't NSW supposed to be the heartland of rugby league?
Now if that's the case, why don't supporters and the media make sure this doesn't happen.
Where's the passion of these teams supporters - go and buy memberships for your clubs. Surely if eventually each club can have 25,000+ members there would be no such talk.

To bad the Jim bean cup is not seen as a viable alternative so that clubs could choose on their own accord whether to take the drop or not.

All the salary cap does is reward poor performers, and inhibit the good performers. The premier league in England is the strongest soccer comp in the world and they don't have a sallery cap. Man United were the richest most powerful club, but now other clubs have caught up. It's survibal of the fittest not the clubs who have all the history.
Clubs like Souths are trying to survive on emotion it simply is not enough.

I find these comments some what ironic coming from a fan whose club is propped up to the tune of $6,000,000 - $8,000,000 per year.

By the way I am a financial member of my club, have been for the last 15, I go to maybe 1 game a year as I live over 800km away. Why ? so I can make a financial contribution to my club.

Do you have any other generalisations about other teams supporters you would like to make ?

On face value you'd have to say Cronulla given there needing a loan to stay solvent situation.

Any club with a single rich backer is always on shaky ground so Manly and Sth's will be at risk of the sugar daddy getting bored/going broke

Penrith don't seem to be able to draw the fanbase and are probably more reliant on Leagues clubs than anyone so longer term they would be uncertainties.

Storm reliant on News is always a risk, especially if News are booted as owners of the game

I think alot of sports clubs in any code are going to be under pressure over the next couple of seasons as corporates pull in their belts and fans start to lose jobs. Hopefull we can ride the storm without anyone falling overboard and drowning.

In relation to Manly thats not really accurate at all. There is additionally the Penn family as partners. And in any case what interests any of them might have will be diluted once their financial shareholding transfers to members over time.

Max Delmege or the Penn family will not be "getting bored" with their involvement financial or otherwise with Manly.

Cronulla. In and out of financial crisis every off-season, there is only so long a business can operate like that.

Understand where your coming from Gourley's. Sharks have struggled for years and this is no different to any other time. The current economic climate is an added burden but not only on Cronulla and its plans to develop its property, but on most clubs.

I personally don't want any side to fail, the passion between rival clubs and fans is what keeps our game alive. Clubs disappear and so do those rivalries and many fairweather fans.

Could you imagine not having Cronulla to bitch about? How boring would that be?
