Pricey's first training in 23 years

By Phillip Heads and James Hooper | January 17, 2009 11:00pm

FOR Parramatta legend Ray Price, it was worth the wait of 8148 days, over two decades - and a sunburnt head.

The club's last premiership-winning captain attended his first Parramatta training session since the 1986 grand final last Friday, alongside new football club board members Brett Kenny and John Chidiac.

Price and Kenny, who also hadn't been to Eels training since he retired in 1993, spoke to head coach Daniel Anderson and several of the Eels players at a club signing day at Parramatta Stadium.

The next twist in the battle to reclaim control of the proud Parramatta club will take place tomorrow when the new board meets for the first time since Price, Kenny, Chidiac and Eric Grothe swept to power.

Out-of-favour chief executive Denis Fitzgerald, who appears a lame-duck walking, has made no personal contact with the so-called rebels since they took control.

The only correspondence was when the Eels football club office telephoned the new board members to tell them they could collect the minutes from the previous board meeting from Parramatta headquarters.

While the new regime virtually have their hands tied until the Parramatta Leagues Club election in April, you would still love to hear what goes on inside the Leagues club meeting at 6pm tomorrow.

"We're behind Daniel Anderson 100 per cent. We told him we hope the side goes well and we had to talk to some of the players about the club going forward,'' Price said.

"It was a very successful day, except for the fact I got burnt on the head.

"I forgot to take my hat out of the car, but I wish I had.''

Since Price last attended an Eels training session, the Eels have gone through four coaches - Ron Hilditch, Mick Cronin, Brian Smith and Michael Hagan.

"We want to increase football club membership and try and get the members more involved in training and game day activities. We want to make the club a better place,'' Kenny said.

Great news, and what a suprise Fitzy not contacting the new board members. Great work from the most experienced CEO in the NRL

Mr Perpetual Motion probably ran their legs off

He stood to the side and had exactly ZERO input to the running of the session. The way it should always be with board members and the running of the football team.

It was a "quality" shirt he had on though.

Wonder how many times Graham Eadie and Terry Randall have been to Manly training sessions in the past 23 years?

Who knows??? But he is the CEO..........

Hello bosses, I'm Dennis.
Want me to show you what really happens around here? Should I just write to the people behind the scenes? Should talk "passionately" into a tape recorder so you can go back and decipher it with your buddies at a later date? Can you give me an answer to these questions or will you need to phone a friend?

Well didn't he say he would have no problem working with the board???? Well if he hasn't said two words to them since the elections it doesn't sound like a working relationship to me.

doug walters went to the cricket the other day. He was happy as larry too. was serving in the bar that was named in his honour. proud as punch he was, even considering he used to have a stand named after him and now it is just a lowly bar. took it on the chin like a man he did.

Dear 3p

Just wondering what the hell is going on. youve been elected to the board yet I have received NO indication of the direction you would like me to take things. for now i will continue as normal? i am awaiting your instruction. I will find out after your first board meeting, i guess.
Either way, thanks for taking the time to come down and familiarise yourselves with things and getting to know the ins and outs of the place. moral boosting exercises like that are good for the staff and increase productivity greatly.:sarcasm:.

Yours in league.....Denis.

PS how many of you will be attending the board meeting? do need to put 19 chairs out or will it just be the board members in attendance? maybe we can have the decision makers of 3p there in a video conference? Once again, i await your instruction.

Still bitter about 3p getting up are we????

No i wouldnt say bitter. Amazed yes but not necessarily bitter.
the result shows though that the Paxton family would have been voted in if they were the only ones running against the incumbents. sad but true.

Which probably explains how much punters were fed up with the incumbants.
