I understand that this is a piss take, because even you know what the SOO eligibilty rules are.

Whatever state, NSW or QLD, a player playes his first "senior" game (u/18 and above) in, he is then eligible to play SOO for that state. Even if a player is born in England, until the age of 6, and lives in QLD until the age of 16, He then moves to Byron Bay at the age of 17 and plays his first u/18 game in NSW, he is then eligible for NSW only.

So can you now see how McManus is eligible for NSW ?

*pssst* Its U16s

I was sure it was u/18's. I did a search on the NRL/ARL/NSWRL/QRL websites and couldn't find it.

Under State of Origin rules, players are selected for the state in which they first played senior (or registered) rugby league. Players must also be eligible to represent Australia at an international level.

A Senior player is a registered player who has attained the age of eighteen (18) years.

I think you're looking at the old rules LL. They have been adjusted a few times to incorporate U16s into senior footy and Qld also have an amendment to claim U14s academy players.

Bloody hard to find links to support though :?

From the ARL website "Queensland supremo Senator Ron Macauliffe devised the audacious plan of having players represent the state with which they had first played senior football"

Yet the merkins select players who do not qualify for QLD.

Sorry champ, I actually clicked on "laws of the game" link.

Yep my bad, I meant the link I posted works, I knew the "laws of the game" doesn't. Good to see the ARL is providing a good service.

Just trying to show that from 2006, u/13 and above seemed to be classed as senior. I find that hard to believe.

As already stated, it's very tough to find the correct info.

If anyone has it, or knows 100% (can quote from a current rule book or policy) I would like to see it, clear this crap up once and for all.
