Sowie Scans

I heard Dell on BSB this morning saying that Sowie didn't train yesterday as he was having scans on his leg and that he wasn't sure if he was okay to play
Any updates on this please?

if it's true, then surely he would be better off copping the 1 week ban for the inglis tackle so that he has no carry over points leading in to the finals..

Heard the same rumour as well. I say fight the charge.
I think we should have his spot covered for this week against the Panthers with Fein/Hornby moving to 5/8th and Priddis or Head on the bench as backup hooker

Good opportunity to see how we go. Got no problems with it as its been a whole team effort to get where we are & Sowie is just adding the touches of class rather than being the sole creator for the team.

I agree with all posts but I’d be inclined to play Matty Head at 5/8 for the following reasons
o Hornby’s RHS combination with Ben Creagh has taken a while to develop, if you recall earlier in the season, Creagh dropped a lot of balls close to the line that he’s now taking,. With Sowie out, this combination may prove vital
o Fien added much needed zip from dummy-half we’d do well to leave him there to increase familiarity with our forwards in particular and cement combinations
o Head deserves a chance to show what he can do and hasn’t played badly given his lack of opportunity

We may choose not to fight the charge but not accept the early plea either which will eliminate the carry-over points and save the club the expense and hassle of contesting the charge on Wednesday evening
As I have mentioned earlier however; Sowie is only just shading El Masri in outright points and his Dally M chances may be hindered by an absence of even one game so who knows how we’ll handle this matter

If Soward was out this week, i'd prefer to see Stanley have a run at 5/8th, he's a big skillful player, and played 5/8th in the trials in each of the games at different stages.

Plus the way he is playing he needs to be in the team, and with Coops and Smith probably coming back, he wont have a place anywhere else really.

There are pros and cons for both Fien and Head.

Fien - better long kicking game, durability to last the 80 mins. But we'd prefer him to develop as our bench hooker

Head - allows us to keep Fien at hooker. Strong passing game and short kicking. Questionable durability over 80 mins, poor long kicking game

Young at 5/8 even though he is sh*t, let hornbag control left hand side, we can score enough points off that side alone to beat the panthers

let fein and hornby share the kicking

J SMith back in at lock with Creagh and Prior the 2nd row and Nev coming off the bench for impact...

in all honesty Boyd has been playing a bit of 5/8 anyways, he can slot in with his decent passing game,

typical Wayne...

share the load!

Jeremy Smith has kicked goals well for NZ in the past. Matt Head is another option if he's in the side. And Chase Stanley as well

If Soward is outed for a week it stuffs him up from winning the Daly M award. If you cop a suspension you lose points don't you? Didn't it cost the cat Billy Slater last year the Daly M from a 1 week suspension. Pretty sure it was against the Dragons. Oh Poor Billy, I am sure our hearts went out to the bloke.......

I use to think the Dragons would go allright without Soward but not anymore. The guy is crucial to the side and is irreplaceable imo. How many times has he popped up in the right spot to catch a lose ball and turn defence into attack. His positioning is freakish when it comes to defusing grubbers.

When have you seen them play without Soward under Bennett. Zero times.

So we cant make any assumptions on how they would play without Soward.

Just goes to show what a load of crap the Dally Ms awards are. The best player all year does not necessarily win the Dally M. You take a hit at the judiciary to help the club out, but end up screwing your Dally M chances? It's a complete joke. Stuff the Dally Ms.

I think it's very safe to assume that he is a large part of our side, even without not having seen him in our side this year. You can't easily replace a bloke who averages 1.5 Try Assists, 450-500 kick meters, 80m in runs a game, the leading NRL goal kicker and point scorer... I'm sure we'd cope pretty easily without him against the lower ranked sides, but come up against the top sides and we'd notice him missing for sure.
