Simpson hasn't been 'very good' for a few years now. Zeb and Sau remain to be seen. They were good last year, but not the kind of players opposition fans trembled over. If they can do it again this year, maybe.
Sau is a current NZ rep, and Zeb would have been if he weren't injured...I think that puts them in the 'very good' category

Eh, I just find it hard to get excited about the same side that limped into the eight and got thumped last season. Smith-gate or no, we were never going to win the competition.

Sometimes you need to take stock of many things when considering the quality of an individual. We can take note of their ability, their motivation, their impact on others and importantly their decency as a human being.

Whether you believe Greg Bird is guilty or not you need to look at a number of things when considering his worth to the club. Is he any different to Wes well that of course could be open to vigorous debate.

So did Greg Bird assault his partner or did her actions cause the injuries? A learned Judge has decided that the latter is the answer, that at law he is not guilty. No surprise really. A sociologist may tell you that the partner has taken the typical position of a domestic violence victim taking the blame for the actions of the perpetrator.

When it is all said and done however, Australian Culture says you stand by your mate. You do what you need to do for him or her. Greg Bird broke that culture he chose to look after himself and was more then ready to try and sink his mate to protect his own reputation.

Is his football ability worth ignoring this fact? Is this the type of bloke you would want to represent you?

For me the answer is simple and it contains two letters, NO.

Ahh... Maybe we need a genuine d***khead in our team? It's something different our team is too nice... I think it could take us to the next level but we already have a good 5/8th...

Sorry I missed my cue Macca, but NO WAY IN HELL. I've said it before on this forum, and I continue to say it and mean it... the day that scumbag pulls on a Knights jersey is the day I walk away from the club.

And Roopy, he never went to Hunter Sports High. He went to Rutherford Technology High. I correct you only out of respect for the name of Hunter Sports High.

If that's the case, you aren't a true knights fan after all..

Have you heard of a bloke called Adam Macdougall?

There are a lot of good players in the team, but you look at the Knights outfit and you look at any side expected to do much of anything - and it just doesn't measure up. We've got some good, honest toilers; we've got a few genuine stars; and we've got a bunch of guys who had good seasons last year and may or may not kick on.

Kurt and Mullen are our only two guys who would walk into most rival lineups, and even Mullen can only really shine from time to time. Taia and Sau have a lot of potential, but we've seen one season wonders before. Mad Dog's good and old. Lulia is bland. Vuna is accident prone. Fa'aoso and Wicks are liabilities half of the time. Simpson's not a patch on what he once was. Hilder's an honest, hard worker. De Gois is riding hype that's probably above him. He's good, but he doesn't look much like an Ennis or a Farah.

I'm always going to be out there to cheer for the team, and I hope that they get out and prove me wrong. But how many other teams so stubbornly stick to their locals and unknowns from afield policy each and every year. When you consider our last big foray into the market landed Ben Kennedy - it puts a pretty obvious picture of how our recruitment system goes. You look at any other club and they'll have picked up 3-5 well known players in the same time we've hired bargain buys like Houston, Hilder, and De Gois. And they're good for the team, but you can't get by on 'good' forever. You need some 'great'.

We're not going to be 'great' unless we luck into another Andrew Johns, or we go out and actually purchase players with some pedigree.

Is he a halfback? Not really... We already have a genuine 5/8th in our ranks we need a good halfback.

For me you have pretty much summed up the thread Yoshy (well done :p) as if we were going to get a player who is as good as Bird, we would be getting a halfback, plain and simple! Not a lock who can also play 5/8 as well.

Your opinion dude, and you're entitled to it.

Personally, I think the fact that I've missed half a dozen home games (maximum) in the last 22 years says otherwise. I think the fact that I don't want the traditions of this great club - traditions that were set by gentlemenlike Bill Peden, Paul Harragon and Tony Butterfield - sullied by a serial f***wit who thinks it OK to potentially blind a young woman with a broken glass says otherwise.

But as I said, your opinion, you're entitled to it. I'll have my season ticket for next year, I'll be sitting with the 'true Knights fans', even if you claim I am not one. Hope I see you there.

Would you honestly stop supporting the knights if Bird came here?

TJS is certainly big enough (and definately ugly enough) to defend himself, but that was out of line dude.

I don't know anyone who lives and breathes this club as much as he does.

We may have disagreements, but just remember to play the ball not the man, BIHK. At least with our fans. Go nuts on the opposition.

Zeb remains to be seen? He was one of the best forwards in the comp last year!

"Bird was last night celebrating the court decision at a private party in Sydney"

I wonder when he raised his glass to make a toast if everyone ducked for cover

Yeah, for one year. It remains to be seen if he can do it twice in a row or if he's just a flash in the pan. Daniel Abraham had a really good year once.
