Confused?
Let's spell it out for you buddy.
Your club gets pinged for overspending the cap . In so doing , it assembles a side the quality of which would be impossible to fit under a legal cap.
So it loses 37 comp points gets a couple of 100K fine and loses the chance to win the 2002 comp.
Despite this ,Canterbury get to KEEP all the ill-gotten stars , unload a raft of second tier wannabes in order to stay under the cap . then proceed to annex the 2004 with the same illegally procured players.
Fair?????? Pffffftttt!!!!!!!!!!!

and the funny thing about that, is that we couldn't keep a bloke on 50K because the NRL wouldn't allow our players to take pay cuts to keep him..

double standards much?

Big deal if they took a pay cut , they should not have been there (well , not all of them ) in the first place.

State the obvious we all know they shouldn't have been there that's why the club was striped points and fined through the roof but tell the players that it was no big deal.

We are talking 8 years ago times have changed and I bet the same thing would happen to the Bulldogs or any other club.

actually nothing substantial has changed in that time ... the salary cap was pretty well settled by 2002

you bulldogs fans should deadset consider yourselves blessed that the NRL was too gutless to really lay down the law .... they went soft cos they "didn't want to hurt the "innocent" fans and players" .... be thankful it wasn't the AFL - carlton got nailed and are still digging themselves out of it

I wouldn't say blessed I would have rather lost everything and started from scratch TBH at least the past would never again be brought up I bet in 30years time 2002 will still be a topic of conversation.

they more than likely just started earning what other players at clubs that didn't cheat got

this was after at least 2 years of rorting the cap and earning more than other players in the comp

the dogs didn't get punished enough, you can't just systematically rort the cap and then just take paycuts as a penalty. those players should have all been FORCED to leave the club ontop of the 30 odd point deduction
