Anyone else getting sick of Melbourne Storm??!!

The thing I love about Melbourne is the intellectual fans they bring with them.....

Simo - you might have a point if it wasn't for the way North sydney died.

Anyway - who cares? I have lived through equally annoying (actually more annoying) Manly and Canterbury dynasties and the abysmal Broncos one. The saving grace to my sanity is the knowledge that the biggest one in my lifetime was ours!

Melbourne are not the best side in the world. They are, however, by a huge margin, the best big match side in the world. There was a big element of Bradbury about both grand finallists. Had Manly not given Chris King (from memory) the day off, and had Brisbane not limped from their semi at Kogarah, and had Saints and Canterbury brought their premiership form into the finals........

It's history. Move on.

Intellectual Fans have the nous to not listen to your rants.

Is that you Gaba? It was every bit as geniused as one of his posts just with less spelling mistakes. So the Storm only beat Manly 40-12 because one bloke didn't play?

There's a lot of if's but's and maybe's in your assumptions though if's but's and maybe's don't win titles. Only the best teams do and like it or not, atm Melbourne are the best team.

I dont remember claiming that the entire Dragons squad was made up of local junior.. If i did please point me to the post....
At least Saints have some local juniors...Name one player in your current First Grade team that was born in VIC let alone Melbourne....

This continued comparison between our club and others over juniors is making me want to cut a bitch.

Ok so the Saints were founded in the 1920's (someone correct me if I am wrong) and are based in one of Rugby Leagues heartlands.
That is 90 years of establishing a broad fan base in an area that is filled will Rugby League fans.
This is Melbourne Storm's 13th season and are based in an area that is filled with people born and bred on AFL. Do the math moron.

Currently there are 15 Rugby League clubs in Victoria. 9 of which have senior teams, 12 have junior teams and 3 Clubs only play against each other as they are Country Victorian teams and no one wants to travel that far regularly to play them. Only 2 of those clubs have been fully represented in the VRL competition every season. You try getting some juniors out of that system straight away.

I'm a little jealous of their success. But I say good on them. They've worked hard to be where they are and deserve it. I just wish they weren't so hard to beat in a Grand Final! :p

they're not at all.

40-nil anyone?

The WCC trophy says otherwise.

Melbourne deserve all the praise they get for their achievements over the past four years. They should be celebrated, not criticised.

Spot on Big Pete, spot on mate. But being a Parra fan I do hate you guys just a little.

'you guys'

I'm a Broncos fan mate.

Just telling it how it is when it comes to Melbourne. I don't think there is anything wrong accepting their current position in the game.

I would like to re-iterate my earlier point. What I would love to see is rather than Melbourne fall is other teams rise. As far as things stand, going into 2010 I believe five teams have serious potential to do just that. Combine those with a few surprise packets and hell we could have the best on-field season since 2003.

Team of the Decade!!!

Is anyone else getting sick of the Storm winning everything there is to win in Rugby League?

When is the slide going to start?
The NRL will ensure they are competitive for many years to come.

Since when am I a Storm fan. If I did make that claim please point that out to me in my post

Uh yeah Saints have local juniors, your club has been around since the 1920's and you draw from the South Coast which is one of the richest nurseries for Rugby League players.

The Storm is a venture to an area that isn't a Rugby League stronghold and therefore need help to fund to stay afloat. The Storm juniors which are based in Melbourne at the moment are growing stronger each year and it is proof that the money being put in down there is worth it.

Not every club is in the same situation some clubs like the Dragons are as strong as they come and don't need the handout, you have your juniors, you have your ticketed members, you are happy with your small suburban ground. Why would you need the money?

I replied to a post which said that Saints success come off the back of their juniors but atm that isn't the case.

I am not a Dragons fan or a Storm fan but I think the Storm is great for the game proof comes in big GF viewers, big melbourne crowds for big games and if only Channel 9 would be happy to give the Storm the same opportunity and they would probably not need the money in the short term future.

**sigh**

my issue was the owners of the NRL are also a owner of a team in the NRL. That is my problem against the storm.

Conflict of interest anyone???

So you have this same problem with the Broncos and up until recently the Cowboys? Or you do not have this problem with them now as they haven't been as sucessful as we have in the last few years?

Is there a conflict of interest with Nick Pilates being they boss of the Roosters and also on the NRL board (Partnership Executive Committee) and isnt there a channel 9 bloke on the Roosters board? Well that would explain why the wooden spooners get 5 tv games in a row. Any conflict of interest there?
And why are people bagging Melbourne about not having any juniors? what Juniors do the Roosters have?

I'm sick of the Storm.
They have been very successful but I hate the way they play the game! I hate what they have brought to the game.
I hate the wrestling and I hate the holding down. I just don't like the way they play and the way they seem to be allowed by Refs to do as they want!?
Like the Roosters, I find it hard to validate a team where 100% of their players come from other teams territory.
At least Melbourne are funding and TRYING to start a junior comp.

And concerning the funding. News LTD takes out X mill per season out of the NRL. news LTD funds Melbourne X mill per season.

So, the other NRL teams fund the Melbourne Storm every year! They suck the other teams dry.

Yeah I find Politis' relationship with 9, the Roosters and the NRL board more concerning than News having various stakes in different organisations in the game. He is one man with power and influence beyond what is reasonable.

News and the NRL will part ways before this year is out with any luck, and they will give up the Storm too which has been discussed. They will only retain a share of the Broncos along with having last rights on pay TV rights.

Post Script:
And criticism of their playing style should be levelled at Bellemy...

On the money they get from News, it has been covered 1000 times... yes, they are a cost on the game, but they generate more money for the game, primarily through advertising, than they cost, along with many other benefits, like expanding the games fan base, exposing more people to the game. We will see real progress here as their junior development improves and they get TV broadcasts in Victoria.

They aim at being self sufficient with the raised NRL covered salary cap with the next TV deal, along with memberships, the new stadium, corporate revenue increase (thanks to the stadium) and investment from a consortium of Melbourne buyers.

I don't like them as a rival, they pinched a premiership from us, they have a nasty habit of winning and drawing big names to the club and their playing style. But to want them gone because of that is pure jealousy.

Problem is, some of you are confusing the onfield performance and team with the business side of things. They are good for the game, just as Perth or Wellington or another QLD side would be.

I voted I am sick of them, but I don't want them gone from the game.

Firstly, Melbourne arguably contribute more money to it's rival clubs than any other through the TV deal, due to the national footprint it gives the NRL, and by being the top rating club on cable TV.

Secondly, News Limited recieves a share of the NRL profits regardless of whether it gives it to the Melbourne Storm or not. If they didn't fund the Storm with it, there is next to no chance it would go back into Rugby League at all, let alone go back to your club.

Yes, but it's been that way since 2006.
Not really. the 3 previous years they finished top of the ladder, not fourth. And we all know that if - for instance - the top 3 brought their best form into the finals it would have been different.

But Melbourne did what they had to do - hence my comment about them being the best big match side in the world. Anyone seeing a negative in that is a fair dinkum f*cktard.
