Why is it whenever the Melbourne Storm and their success is the topic that only the Dragons supporters bring the holier than thou attitude.

You aren't the only ones with juniors guys in fact, you have been sitting on a goldmine for 30 years and haven't won a title, what a waste. And if it does happen it will be because of a recruited coach and recruited players.

You breed your own success what bullsh*t, Jamie Soward? bred? I would say any success you have had so far has come from him and if you manage to win the big one this year it will be mainly due to players brought in like him, Smith, Boyd and Fien.

You didn't even breed Johnny Raper lol.

I dont remember claiming that the entire Dragons squad was made up of local junior.. If i did please point me to the post....
At least Saints have some local juniors...Name one player in your current First Grade team that was born in VIC let alone Melbourne....

Im not talking about a conflict of interest im talking about clubs getting money from owners it's not just the Storm.
Everyone else was talking about the NRL owners hand outs, looks like its still going way over your head!!

I only wish we got hand outs from the NRL around the 6 million mark a year... would be fantastic!!

Melbourne dot get a $6 million hand out form the NRL at all.... Oh your so hard done by.

Exactly right. What News give to the Storm is just part of their share of revenue that they get from the league. Some of you deluded fools seem to think if they weren't giving it to the Storm they'd leave it in the game and spend it elsewhere within the league

The fact is that they can choose to spend their share exactly how they want and that is by spending it on the team they own. Ever heard the term you have to spend money to make money? As has been pointed out the Storm generate a sh*tload more than what it takes to run them in sponsorship/advertising/media rights but you bozo's conveniently choose to ignore that.

whether we percieve no foul play has occured or not, the game shouldn't be comprimised by having it put in a position where the risk of it happening are high, and not only that they are in front of our face!
actually agree with you here pete. If rugby league officiating were to be audited, then the major factor setting off alarm bells in the auditor's head was that News Ltd were an influential entity of the officials and a controlling entity of one of the users of the officials. There probably isn't an issue but you just don't poke the lion because he is sleeping

If the Storm generate so much revenue, why are they not operating at a profit? Surely someone at the club should be making a hell of a lot of noise asking where all this revenue they generate is disappearing to!

I credit the Storm for their on-field success. Slater, Cronk, Smith, Inglis, Folau, Johnson, Blair, Hoffman, King weren't guns when they came to the club, they became guns through playing for the Storm. Bellamy has shown how good a coach he is by building a class side virtually from scratch, turning unknowns into champions, winning 3 straight Minor Premierships, making four straight Grand Finals, and winning 2 of them. Melbourne are obviously doing something right witht he running of their club.

Having said that, I still despise the bastards (and have since the day I first heard of them back in 1997) and hope they lose every match they play. And to have a team owned by the same company that owns 50% of the NRL is a conflict of interest, no ifs, buts, or maybes about it. This simply should never be allowed to happen in any sport. I don't think News Ltd have ever taken adavantage of this conflict of interest, but it is there, and it should not be.

So let me get this straight.. you are defending that the owners of the game own a team???

I couldnt give a flying f**k if they put the money in there fat pockets, you should not be able to own a team as well as the comp they play in!!! This is a conflict of interest of the highest order!!!

If the Storm breached the salary cap? tell me what the NRL would do??? O wait i know.. i can imagine the letter...

Dear News Ltd,

Please see the cheque attached for $250,000 for breaching the salary cap.

Yours Sincerely,

News Ltd....

News Ltd also have control of the Broncos and, up until recently, the Cowboys. In fact they have no intention of selling their controlling stake in the Broncos unlike the eventual goal with the Storm.

Get over it, storm are here to stay, i prefer news ltd to give them $6m of thier share then to see the club go bust. Everyone here says they want league to build australia wide and become the number 1 competition, So when news ltd try to help out half of you complain, i don't get it.

The money they generate in regards to the things i mentioned doesn't go straight into their pocket, if it did they'd be making a big profit. The money they bring into the league in regards to sponsorship/advertising/media rights goes to ALL clubs and they ALL benefit from it. Surely that's not too hard to comprehend?

How many f**king times do we have to keep going around in circles with this crap? It seems like everytime the mexicans win a new title the same old sh*t gets brought up. God forbid they win the GF again this year

There a great addition to the NATIONAL RL and I for one am glad News saw fit to invest in them. Their investment has given our game some credibility outside of two states.

ps News aren;t giving them money out of the goodness of tehir hearts, take a look at the top Fox sports watched teams and you can see why A) News invest in them and B) Why mysteriously (!) Ch9 refuse to show Storm on FTA live.

This statement should be scrolling along the bottom of the screen on every Storm game, so at least the opposition fans know what they are in for

the question is does the average punter actually know about this or are they oblivious?????

it seems impossible that they wouldn't know

however just as impossible that we all just accept it

Thought you would sniff this thread out pete..tailor made for your love of the Storm.;-)

what a hero.. my club takes care of itself blah blah blah..
NSWRL Hack you are..

Storm are here.. they get funded.. deal with it.. we won 2 premierships and just won the world club challenge..

How you like them apples you punce!

The thing I love about Melbourne is the intellectual fans they bring with them.....

Simo - you might have a point if it wasn't for the way North sydney died.

Anyway - who cares? I have lived through equally annoying (actually more annoying) Manly and Canterbury dynasties and the abysmal Broncos one. The saving grace to my sanity is the knowledge that the biggest one in my lifetime was ours!

Melbourne are not the best side in the world. They are, however, by a huge margin, the best big match side in the world. There was a big element of Bradbury about both grand finallists. Had Manly not given Chris King (from memory) the day off, and had Brisbane not limped from their semi at Kogarah, and had Saints and Canterbury brought their premiership form into the finals........

It's history. Move on.

The WCC trophy says otherwise.

Also true.

There was a big element of Bradbury about both grand finallists.

Yes, but it's been that way since 2006.
Had Manly not given Chris King (from memory) the day off,

Who?

and had Brisbane not limped from their semi at Kogarah

I know for a fact the Broncos played the Dragons in Queensland. Don't tell me QLD has also claimed that area as apart of their state? They're not even connected!

and had Saints and Canterbury brought their premiership form into the finals........

The Dragons were burnt out after playing Melbourne. IMO, they did very well to finish where they did with that squad. They were always going to be exposed by a side like Melbourne or Brisbane in the big game environment.

Dogs, yeah, they were unfortunate to lose Kimmorley when they did. Would've been interesting to see how they'd go with a fully fit Kimmorley in the prelim but at the end of the day, fate is a funny thing.

Melbourne deserve all the praise they get for their achievements over the past four years. They should be celebrated, not criticised.
