Billy Slater on field bullying. A low act

I find it hilarious the number of knuckle-dragging deadsh*ts on here who equate suffering from a mental illness to being a soft c**k. Being depressed doesn't make you weak or even make you likely to take an insult any harder than somebody else would. It's this small minded, stupid attitude that drove a great like Steve Rogers to suicide.

If Barry Ward can be suspended for calling Anthony Mundine something he'd hear walking down any street in country NSW, Slater should get similar treatment. For a game that's trying to fix its image to allow such behavior to go unpunished just because the jockey responsible is untouchable is utter bullsh*t.

For what it's worth, Patterson looked fully intent on knocking Slater's head off - but the little skirt made damn sure to be nowhere near Patterson for the remainder of Patto's time on the field.

Ah, the wood louse strikes again.

All those "harden up' wankers; there's a line. Sledging is fun, but you have to know where to stop. Depression is just plain f**ked; I've been living with it for as long as I can remember. You do harden up, you do push through it and get on with your life. You don't need some gutless prick throwing it in your face.

Slater is one of those guys who starts sh*t when he knows he's safe; hiding behind team mates or belting someone who's being held by several other players.

The sooner the germ gets a good old fashioned belting the better. I'd pay to see him get knocked out before he can hide behind his forwards.

All you wankers saying "harden up", we'll if a relatively of yours was suffering from clinical depression, I'd hate to imagine your sentiments towards them.

"I rang Cory immediately to discuss it and clear the air.

Lol at Storm fans using this as evidence Billy is a good guy. I'd be trying to cover up what was said too if I was Billy.

This. It just goes to show that most people really have no idea about what they're talking about when it comes to depression. Keyboard heroes at their best.

For the record, I don't have a huge problem with it. It's a bit of the heat of the moment thing and what happens on the field should stay on the field. I do think Slater was in the wrong to go down that path of sledging though, but like JM said, it was eventually going to happen. Some brain-dead f**kwit was always going to use it in their sledging. For me it just falls into the same category as racism.

We all know Slater wouldn't have the balls to say it in a different setting with no referees and no friends as opposed to 12.

Everyone has known Slater was low life coward scum ever since he kicked Skandalis' head while he lay helpless on the floor.

Then he ran away when Skandalis got up and wanted to punch the living sh*t out of him.

Depression is something most of us will never understand. I admit I am one of "us". To that end, I will continue to laugh and make jest until which point I am impacted by it. Anyone here like to get on the soap box and preach perfect? There sure are a lot of issues in life you will need to be perfect at.

Well, you're a perfect example of an arsehole.

I honestly can't believe people want him punished for this. Don't let your hate get in the way of your judgement. There's a huge difference between racism and this.

BTW, I agree with those condemning others for their "harden up" stance. Depression is a serious illness and Billy was wrong (I'm sure he knows it too) to use this to sledge someone.

The hypocrisy of some people on this forum makes me laugh.

As a result of the outrage of the people on this thread towards using mental states as a way of sledging someone I fully expect that the words genius and its derivative Victorian to withdrawn as acceptable to be used in any type conversation on this forum as you have shown that you will not stand for any such type of sledging of people.

.

you have a very good point, not OK to take the pish out of mental illnes but ok to use a derogatory term linked to Learning Disabilities? I think it has alot more to do with peoples dislike of Slater than what he actually said.

You can not hold other people to a higher standard than you hold yourself and "oh but he is a role model" is not an excuse for hypocrisy. Any child can also read this forum and think the way people talk is acceptable in civalised conversation.
There's a clear different between calling someone a 'Victorian' and sledging a person for their depression.
That's really a no brainer, but nice try.

Lets ask a person living with Down's if they agree?
We're not personally insulted a person with Downs are we? It's used as a broad term.
The posters are using a term as a comeback not as something deliberately said with knowledge of the actual illness being suffered.
Living by this logic, people that use the word 'lame' can be added to this and as well those that use nice person, androtop, fairy and I'm sure I could find various sexist terms as well?
