are you making the trek to the gong friday night.
I probably shouldnt - i'm fighting a terrible battle with the sniffles, but it is a 'steelers' game - then it might take a bit more than a cold to stop me!

I just find it odd that people would want to celebrate mediocrity is all.
I thought it was the game against Raiders. It was in 2007 and 08.
Thats still more that Cronulla has ever won!
To all you whining sooks sitting in the corner having assumed the foetus position and thumb up to the knuckle deeply entrenched in your gob....
My rant is based at purely the purpose of celebrating such a worthless bit of sporting achievement. I'd have the same "why bother" attitude if they wheeled out the St George 88 panasonic cup side and made a big hoopla about it. Steelers bashing? Hardly. But to see such a backlash from some people really speaks volumes as to what is classed as success in sport and the recognition it deserves. Have a good hard look at yourselves lads before bringing up the old chestnut "typical saints fan bagging the steelers" when you've got nothing better to bounce back with other then that drool.
I have splinters in my arse on this one.
I can see how some former Steelers supporters want to remember the pre-JV days with a heritage jersey event. I suspect that many of these also embrace the history of St George as their own. So I can understand Me So Hornby - someone who simply wants to support the team from an Illawarra perspective.
I can also see that we have only just begun to emerge from decade where there was an acceptance of mediocrity pervading through the culture of the club. Nothing grated on me more when wide-eyed supporters saying how great it was that we made the the top four, or even seeing something good about making the top eight. We hit rock bottom when the club chairman put a positive spin on the team finishing only 'two wins outside of the top eight', and some newbie post-JV fans accepted it without question. From an old St George fan perspective, this was as bad as it gets, and surely we don't want to ever go back there again. So I can understand Major questioning the validity of celebrating a period of underachievement.
What we have now is a club, players and supporters that are finally demanding a premiership, and that second best is simply not good enough.
We have healthy arguments and deliver a frank exchange of views, but it is our discussion to have. The trolls don't get it but they're not part of the debate.
At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I really don't think anyone is actively trying to insult the 'other side'. After all, we are all here to speak our minds. Right?
Is the fact that there is no St George heritage day indicative of the fact that the team is really St George and the Steelers are an afterthought ??
We've had St George Heritage days in the past. They usually coincide with a heritage promotion the NRL are running
2004 against Manly when the NRL held 80s week
2005 against Parramatta when the NRL held 70s week
2006 against Wests Tigers when the NRL held 60s week
2007 against Cronulla when the NRL held 50s week
2009 against Canterbury the NRL heritage round
2008 was against Canterbury aswell. We wore butchers stripes for '08/'09
Has it been confirmed anywhere that we will have the Butcher stripes?
