Gallop pushing for new stadium in Campbelltown

Because Belmore had crap parking and was no nearer to a station than Parramatta, ANZ, Homebush, Penrith or Kogarah

On the positive the Wests Tigers are the only Sydney club who shall draw anything to close to 30k on a regular basis if they're winning.... on the negative putting a new stadium in Campbeltown is a complete waste as it's so far out from everywhere else and will struggle to attract other clubs to play there, or other Sydney based sports teams also.
It's smack bang in the middle of Sydney's fastest growing area, and the only real chunk of land the metropolitan area has to expand. Plus it's the closest ground to a station, and that station has direct lines to Liverpool, Fairfield, parramatta, Bankstown and the city.

They haven't had massive crowds there before, but this stadium is going to be built somewhere, and there is no better option.

Beats building a brand new stadium for the Victorians to play at...

No it doesn't, I'm afraid. The new Melboring stadium will be THE test for Storm's support, as it removes the last excuse for their crap crowds.

Good luck in getting past the green bans that usually attract projects like this as the parra Stadium did.

Not to mention the usual protesters whining about the big traffic jams in and around the locals part of town before and after a game would be a hard nut to crack.

F*ck Manly.

What a great idea for that stadium to be built in Campbelltown.

There is a massive population out there and its a rugby league town.

If this thing is built in c/town i think the tigers part of the merger will have to suck it up and play all of their games out of c/town(best thing for the club) and forget leichardt.

When would Parra use Blacktown?

The same games we currently move to ANZ would probably be when that would happen...we'd never move anywhere full time, but a "home" advantage in a big stadium out west would be great for the big games we currently play at ANZ

Should have happened 10 years ago, the campbelltown are has become massive, they should play all their home games there. Typical of two chook raffle run clubs who combined to not even be able to hook up a root at a swingers party!

There is a massive population there that is growing, the AwFuL f**ked up big time when they chose Blacktown, because in all seriousness the Tigpies take cambpelltown for granted.

They dont take cambo for granted, they respect both sides of the JV, try to keep it as equitable as possible while making some monety at the same time (thus surviving) by taking games to marquee venues.
50/50 is and will never be easy.
Not smart business practice to shun 50% of your clientele, but natural attrition will force their hand eventually, and fans will have to like it or lump it.

Direct lines that take forever. It takes nearly an hour to get from Parramatta to Campbelltown by train, and they only run trains to and from at selected times. In comparison it takes 35 minutes to get to the city from Parra. The Eels, Dogs, and Panthers aren't going to take games to Campbelltown so what's the point? You'd be better of building a stiadium somewhere in betwen Parra and Penrith, it's a lot closer to the Hills district which is also having a huge increase in population through Kellyville, Rouse Hill, Glenwood estate etc in recent years.

waste of money. the tigers are going to use it 6 times a year max. better to build one at liverpool so that the dogs and eels can use it too.

+4 . Makes much more sense to build the large stadium at Liverpool imo .More central . Tigers ,Dogs and Eels are all relevant there plus theres buses , trains and M5/M4/M7 to get there .Any stadium would be good though, there would be more space to build at Campbelltown i guess but its much less central and a bit of a hike for alot of people to go.

They can and do change train timetables you know...it happens all the time

Still doesn't change the fact it takes over 50 minutes to get from Parramatta to Campbelltown via train. That's just how long it takes. Unless they build trains which run 40% faster or decide to re-locate the entire city of Campbelltown 20 kms north so it isn't in the sticks the only club this advantages is the Tigers. If that's the NRL's intention then good on em, Tigers have great crowds when they are winning and deserve an NRL funded upgrade more than any other Sydney club. No other clubs will be interested in using this stadium though.

Did Gallop say that it supposed to be for numerous teams? The fact that Campbelltown is quite some distance from the rest of Sydney is just another reason to build it.

 Why not just dissolve the merger and reinstate the Magpies? Wests Tigers would be foolish to shun the Balmains side of the merger and foresake its presence in the Inner West. A more viable approach would be to foster the club's association with each districts acknowledging their respective benefits (population expansion - South-West & tradition - Inner West). Diving the games 9-3 or 10-2 in favour of Campbelltown would be an appropriate compromise.

I would think that if the NRL were going to invest a large amount of money into a brand new stadiun then they should build it in an area which is central for other NRL clubs to use. Also it would make sense to build it in an area which has a decent public transport system. Unless the NRL plans on expanding and adding another team in Campbelltown region once it's properly developed this investment seems a waste.

Perhaps Gallop can find something a little more productive to do rather than negotiate to have a stadium relocated to suit one team to play at six times a year.

I mean seriously this would be amusing if it weren't so bloody stupid. Just stand back and analyse this whole fiasco and ask why Gallop has anything to do with this at all.

i agree, but honestly, can you ever see the balmain side of the j/v agreeing to this?
