That shot deserved six weeks IMO. Big man to take on a rookie in his first NRL match and strike him the way he did.

IMO it was deliberate and not careless. Should be upgraded.

Timana Tahu is a much better best agressive player then Steve Matai and he can do so without being a grub

I know league players are dumb but I doubt he would think, ok I am going to attack this blokes head on purpose, I dont care if I get a month on the sidelines. He is aggressive and tried to smash him but it came off all wrong and he will now pay the price.

And who cares if he tried to smash a guy on debut, are we meant to go easy on guys playing their 1st game? They should be targetted for the rough stuff.

I think he is awesome, and most of you are jealous that he doesn't play for your team.

He sails close to the wind, and sometimes it doesn't pay off but I would much rather have him in our team than not.

That Hayne is a bit of a cat, a couple of his tackles seemed pretty close to trips, cant he tackle properly?

Maybe open your eyes just a little, Matai goes hard at any player he can, doesn’t matter the opposite players position.

But his tackle on Humble was a shocker and he will get 4 weeks

he is a grub and a great defender when he hits underneath the neck.
He is putting most of it on when he gets injured as you see him looking like in pain then a minute later he is hitting players so hard they fall backwards.
Mataii i wouldnt want in my team as he is not an 80min centre and gets injured way too much

Holy sh*t,

After watching last nights game I am now convinced he is the biggest grub in the game. I always knew he was either a) a diver, or b) a massive softcock who left the field every chance he got, but now I know for sure he is just deadset f**ked.

After about the 17th forearm to the head 'tackle' he did last night, he got called to the ref. He sort of just shrugged his shoulders, effectively cutting off the ref, and walked off. Several attempts were made to bring him back, and he refused, more than once. Why the f**k was he still allowed on the field?

I was told this morning that he was cited twice for high shots? WTF?

1. Why wasn't he sent off.
2. How many weeks will he / should he get?
3. Is he ever actually injured?
4. Should he be playing Bowls or something instead (so that he doesn't get injured?
5. Why does Manly persist with a centre who struggles to play 80 minutes a week?

1. Because the ref was weak, he should have got at least 10 in the bin.
2. Probably about 6. That tackle was the worst high tackle I've seen for ages, there was definitely intent.
3. Well last year he played 21 games, yet went down with injury probably about 40 times.
4. Playing bowls would require him to use his brain far too much.
5. Because they have no one else.

what a bunch of sooks. you'd back him to the hilt if he was yours - are any of you man enough to admit it?

No way I would, we had Ennis and I hated him.... and Matai is 50 times as bad

Agreed. One of the more obvious send off offences you will ever see.

But the refs under Robert Finch have zero courage to make the big decisions.

No I wouldn't.

I was happy to go on record as saying Costigan is the worst thing that happened to our club at the time he was with us. He's a dirty, cheap-shot merchant that is also just a sh*t human.

Matai is worse than him.

So you lot cant see the irony in sitting behind a computer, where you are safe, and cannot be belted......and calling a player (who at least belts a bloke, and is in a position to get smashed back) a cat......me personally i dont think Mattai is the cat

Agreed.

We dodged a bullet with Matai as well. Some years back, before he had fully established himself in first grade, his manager came to the Raiders and offered his services, but was met with a "thanks but no thanks".

I'm thankful every day that they made this decision.

If Manly had Matt Gafa, Adam Mogg, Jason Bulgarelli, Adrian Purtell, Craig Frawley, Colin Best, Marshall Chalk, Brett Kelly and David Howell running around in our backline we would've turned down an International, Premiership winning centre as well.
