At least they had lived here for a while. Teo has lived in Australia for what, 4 years? And 2 of them were in Sydney. He probably couldn't point out brisbane on a map

I'm sure the selectors are just picking him for QLD now so that New Zealand don't have him in the future ala Villisanti.

Can someone tell me how that poser is eligible for QLD?

He didn't play his first senior footy in NSW, therefore he is a queenslander...

Come to think of it, even playing your first senior footy in NSW makes you a queenslander so really I think the eligibility rule is if you are alive, currently playing in the NRL or ESL and haven't yet made your debut for NSW, NZ or England you are a queenslander.

Stupid Australia rules... the way its set up is to allow every half decent player ability to play for QLD, NSW, Australia... NZ can have the left overs it seems having had Nathan Fien and Brent Webb play for them.

Australia can have Ben Teo- he'll get what he rightly deserves should he play against the Kiwis.

Lol hayne and ricketson were born here, mason and Tahu moves here before they in school and el masei when he was 10 or something

If someone like ben teo represented nsw I would be embarrassed. You can have all the banter you want but I fail to see how anyone can defend this bloke playing state of origin

Think about this. No-one's bending arms or threatening anyone to represent Queensland ... it seems representing our great State has a magnetic quality. If the smallest loophole can be found in the eligibility rules, players are running into that gap faster than Slater off a Cronk kick.

Representing Queensland is held in such high esteem. It's like the whole immigration debate. We have boatloads of people fleeing from atrocities to represent the Maroons. Do we turn them away? Can we live with ourselves if we leave them floating in an ocean of mediocrity?

I think not!

So out of interest (I know nothing about Teo's background) whats the problem exactly?
Is he a fair dinkum Kiwi or someone in the grey area?

Agreed.

And on the other side of the coin you've got guys like Jamie Lyon doing everything they can to not have to represent NSW, going as far as applying to retire from rep football just to avoid having to wear the NSW jersey. When that fails, he tells the selectors to leave him out. Such is the pride NSW have for their jersey they pick the scumbag anyway!

Teo's story:

Currently 23 years old

Born in NZ. Lived in NZ until he was 20 when he moved to NSW to play for the Tigers. Played for the Tigers for 2 years. Was part of the NZ train-on squad in 2007. Represented Samoa in the 2008 World Cup.

Moved to Queensland to play for the Broncos a year ago. Is now representing Queensland.

Source: Wikipedia, so could well be wrong in the early days.

He's basically a Kiwi. I think he's one of those blokes who's from New Zealand and came to Keebra Park late in schooling like Benji Marshall and Greg Eastwood.

The origin selection rules the way they are, gives Australia an big advantage in terms of their player pool (since the origin carrot is pretty significant), an advantage they really do not need.

It's all ok by me as long as he doesn't go back to being a Kiwi or Samoan then a QLD'er again... that would set a nasty precident... Oh wait...
