I just find Tim has a grossly warped appreciation and respect for authority and authority figures, Mods on these forums aren't gods and aren't always 100% right Tim, neither are lawmakers, cops, doctors or yes, even those in high up admin positions in professional sport.

I'm happy that the GF is staying in Sydney for the next 10 years. I think we were getting paid something like 500k a year from the State Government, so on the surface it appears a nice increase. However like others have suggested why would the NRL sign a 10 year deal? I just don't get it. Most worrying however is that these are the same people that will negotiate the most important TV rights deal ever. When Gallop came out and said the TV rights talks were going to start early it seemed they had moved one step forward, and now they have moved right back where they were.

good news whichever ever way you look at it, the nrl has most of its origins in new south wales. and most of the clubs competing have their history in new south wales.

Big mistake.. QLD doesnt hold 70k+ some ppl say.. well the way NSW is goin atm with there rubbish support for the game, it wouldnt surprise me to see less then 50k at a GF by some time in those 10 years.

What evidence do you base that on?

Since ANZ Stadium was capacity 83.5k (2003 onwards), the crowds for the big one have been:

2003: 81,166
2004: 82,127
2005: 82,453
2006: 79,609
2007: 81,392
2008: 80,388
2009: 82,538

I know you're a blithering idiot who does nothing but hate Sydney, but at least try to base what you're saying on some sort of reality...

rubbish support for the game with the record crowds in sydney this year? sydney has more nrl members than any city, more people attending nrl games each week than anywhere else and the most nrl clubs (obviously).

Please stop talking rationally and logically to Timmy, his feeble little mind can't comprehend either concept. You're spot on, the NSW government paid a pittance in relation to what the event is really worth and they'll make a very handsome profit on it every year.

This is yet another example of the gross ineptness of our games hierarchy. With the rights up as to who hosts the GF they had the perfect opportunity to maximise the games true worth creating a bidding war between the state governments (even using Victoria to up the price even though we all know they had sweet f**k all chance to get it) yet they sell it for a pittance, just like they did out tv rights.

I may not be an "events valuer" Tim Tim but i'm sure as hell not a deluded halfwit who thinks that our GF isn't worth much much more than $4.5 million a year they paid without going up a cent in that 10 year period. Obviously you are that deluded and severely undervaluing our game like our leaders. You'd be perfect for a job in the NRL.

The government doesn't make a profit on anything. The economy is the beneficiary, which means support for local businesses and jobs. The govt may indirectly benefit from greater tax revenue from a boost to the economy. You make it out like the govt is directly receiving every cent of the money the visitors may spend.

At the end of the day the NSW govt offered a better deal than the 'only' other bidder, Qld. It is money in the bank, plus the fact the NRL know they will make more on ticket sales than they would in Brisbane.

I think this is a first in Australian sport, so it is hard to compare or 'value' in that respect.

Sorry you took it that way but obviously the government doesn't receive every cent which isn't what i was saying. If it brings $20 million a year into the state then the government will benifit in many ways as well as countless other people, hence why i said and still say they paid unders for an event which IMO is worth much more. Anything that makes over $15 million more than what it costs is a brilliant return regardless of who gets the money, the more people that benifit from it the better.

2006: 79,609 - and only one slightly under the 80,000+ mark was when 2 non-Sydney teams played.

The Grand Final has been pathetic as 'an event' for the last 5-10 years. I dont know if thats the NRL's doing or the States, but it would have been nice to see what someone else could have done with it.

I dont care whether it is in NSW or QLD, i just would have liked to have seen something a bit different.

Great news for NSW, but by the NRL tying themselves into such a long agreement, the deal won't look so good in future seasons as inflation naturally takes it course.

Has a sense of dejavu in some ways. Similar to the TV deals.

I seriously don't want to see the GF played anywhere but sydney. It would be a completely mockery to host it anywhere but here, so I am happy it is tied up for another decade.

The AFL would never, EVER move their GF outside of melbourne, and reflect this with their incredibly long deal with the MCG to host the game. the NRL should do the same.

Leave the huge money spinning to the TV rights. Don't sacrifice tradition for the sake of a few bucks

Epic WTF.

What on Earth does opinions on finances and decisions about where a sporting event is played have to do with me and authority figures, and better still, mods on these forums?

Fair dinkum...

How much is the AFL paid to keep the GF in Victoriania??

How much was the NRL getting per year before this?

This is a great way to begin growing the pot for League and the involvement of the government would hopefully extend to it's funding of other GF week events so as to really develop it as an event and not just a sporting spectacle. It is a real positive step forward.

Maybe 10 years is too long but no government would put decent coin on the table without the deal securing a return for a considerable time
