You would think NRL and even Super 15 would get more then AFL. You can see our sponsors properly. (in some cases it stands out too much.

It would come down to a number of factors I doubt it's all that clear cut. Brands will obviously want to choose a club they think would best benefit their general needs. Peter Wynns score would not want to sponsor Cronulla for example, they'd want to sponsor Parramatta.

Really it comes down to exposure. As Eels Dude said there are definitely a lot of factors involved, but potential exposure is the salient one.

Melbourne Storm had the most valuable jersey in NRL and AFL before the scandal broke:

http://www.financialstandard.com.au/news/view/24405/

In the latest S-Comm report, produced by research company Repucom, the Melbourne Storm jersey is the most valuable property across both the NRL and AFL, with more than $4.2 million generated in media return in season 2008.

The Storm's five key sponsors, HostPLUS, Medibank Private, Suzuki, Jayco and Reebok, all achieved "outstanding commercial success" in 2008 in their association with the club, claims the Melbourne Storm Rugby League club.

Media exposure value generated for Melbourne's five key sponsors was in excess of $15.8 million, an increase of nearly 40 per cent compared with 2007, 65 per cent compared with 2006, and a substantial 250 per cent compared with 2005, according to the club.

Have found anything on how much there sponsor deals actually were though.

As much as I loathe AFL, their jersey should be worth a lot more than Super 15.
Have a think about how many free to air Super 15 games are shown on Free to air, how many are played in Australia at a reasonable time and how many games are in their season.

My guess is the AFL can pull those figures because their 'gurnseies' have less on them, so they're more noticeable - a supply and demand thing. Maybe their training gear has additional sponsors? From seeing the sport on the news, I think Collingwood has Maccas, Lexus and Wizard? Not sure what's on their actual playing wear though...but I don't think it's all of them.

But in saying that, I'd be surprised if the total AFL sponsorship would be comparable to ours...surely in this situation quantity would beat quality??

Newcastle's major sponsor is also our "community partner" - their sponsorship is offset against various properties, including the jersey. I am reliably informed that all things included, C&A's sponsorship of the Knights is the largest single sponsorship for any club in Oz - but you won't find that spelled out anywhere.

AFL on average definitely smash us in jersey value. It has been like this for a long time, if I remember rightly back in the 90's when Parramatta wore a one off M&M's strip, Carlton also did, and I think they got double.

I'd say alot of it would come down to tv viewing numbers, the AFL tv deal is highly skewed towards FTA, which means more viewers, which means high jersey dollar value. That simple.

this is why all teams should get enough FTA coverage. So their jersey sponsors get the exposure they pay for.

Can I just mention JAYCAR electronics is the Bulldogs main jersey sponsor.

St George Bank should be paying us double what they are paying us currently with all the FTA exposure we are getting!
