Congrats to the players and coach on sealing the 2010 minor premiership last night. That it is a fine achievement cannot be argued.

would have been better if we won it at kogarah but well done anyway to the boys & the staff
We still get the trophy at Kogarah on Sunday after the 50uffs game.
Hopefully the boys win that game well, will be even more satisfying.

Yes indeed, the JJ Giltinan Shield should be at Kogarah next Sunday. No rush across town like last year.

Consecutive minor premierships, we haven't done that since the 1960s.

Another minor point worth noting.. I recall at the start of 2010 most experts expecting Saints to slide this year, considering the loss of Sailor and Poore, and the fact other teams around us were bolstered by new signings. We've not only retained the minor premiership, but the team has improved significantly on 2009

Two minor premierships in a row... and LEGITIMATE ones too. But the real test is still to come. Hope Bennett gets coach of the year this time round and some of the players are rewarded with some dally m awards.

St George Illawarra hooker Dean Young revealed there was sense of relief rather than delight after the Dragons secured the NRL minor premiership at Newcastle.
Wayne Bennett's side held off a brave fightback from the Knights to win 26-18 on Saturday.
Young admitted that clinching the JJ Giltinan Shield for the second successive year with one round of the season remaining eased the pressure on the side.
The Dragons host South Sydney in their final game of the campaign at Kogarah next Sunday, a game the Rabbitohs may need to win to scrape into the finals.
"We are very proud and I guess it shows how far the club has come in the space of two years and it shows we have been the most consistent side but the hard work is not over yet," Young told AAP.
"Although the minor premiership is great reward for everyone's sacrifices, it will be very disappointing if we don't get to where we want to."
The Knights gave the Dragons an almighty scare in the second half, recovering from a 22-0 deficit to within four points before Jamie Soward darted over for a late try to wrap up the game.
Young admitted there were some nervous looks among the players having been blitzed in the second period at Canberra in their previous round in their 32-14 defeat to the Raiders.
"The last two weeks have been hard ... Canberra and now Newcastle, they have scored quick tries in a row on us and it puts us under real pressure and something we have to address," Young said.
"Had we had lost here tonight we would have had to play Souths to win the minor premiership and they go into the game still having a chance to get in the finals.
"It would have been another high-pressured game and the build-up would be the same and that is something we were keen to avoid as there will be having plenty of that in the finals.
"It is a relief but at the same time we are very proud."
Bennett said he was unconcerned about his side's second-half fadeout and happier now than 12 months ago when they slumped to a heavy defeat to Souths, before wrapping up the minor premiership with a win over Parramatta in the final round of the season.
"I am not too worried about it ... they played pretty well, the Knights, and didn't deserve to be 22-0 down," Bennett said.
"We took all of our opportunities and then gave some back to them ... and all of a sudden we looked pretty average.
"But in the last 10 minutes we dug in and started to play a bit instead of making silly errors and closed the game out.
"I am a lot happier tonight than I was this time last year, we were well beaten by South Sydney and then had to pull out all the stops to beat Parramatta in the last game."

Good point. Let's not forget that Parramatta were favourites to take out the premiership this year, and the Dogs were up there too. Let's hope we continue to prove the so called "experts" wrong.

Is this the first time bennett coach a team back to back minor premierships, .....

the drongos won the minor premiership in the breakaway, charitably recorded '97 season & backed up in '98 finishing atop the table.

i'm fairly sure including his brl stint, that last year was the first time he didn't achieving the title after securing the minor premiership.

Congrats to Wayne & the boys, great achievement winning consecutive minor premierships, something to be proud of. I bet there won't be too much celebrating next Sunday night at Kogarah like there was last year, Benny and the boys know there is a bigger prize to focus on.

Big picture: Soward eyes ultimate prize

Speedy playmaker Jamie Soward scored the try to seal St George Illawarra's second successive minor premiership.
But the 25-year-old was just as quick to remind celebrating fans and team-mates on Saturday night that the Dragons will be remembered for what happens in the next 34 days.
Soward raced over after supporting a breathtaking and match-winning break by fullback Darius Boyd, securing a 26-18 win over Newcastle at EnergyAustralia Stadium.
It ensured the JJ Giltinan Shield remains in Wollongong for another year, even with their round-26 game against South Sydney still to play.
But following last year's late-season slump, which ended with the minor premiers out of the finals after consecutive losses, Soward said retaining the shield would be meaningless if they didn't capture an elusive title on October 3.
"The minor premiership, it's something that goes to the most consistent team and we wanted to be that," he said.
"But it's more for the fans. We take pride in it, but we want more, we want to take the next step.
"We're going to be remembered by whether we win the comp or not and not by how many minor premierships you win."
St George Illawarra will be presented with the shield by NRL chief executive David Gallop after Sunday night's clash with South Sydney at WIN Jubilee Oval, Kogarah.
They are on 36 competition points, four clear of the Gold Coast Titans, who crashed to a 30-16 loss to the Sharks in Trent Barrett and Luke Covell's farewell game at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.
Wests Tigers are now outright second on 34 after overcoming Melbourne at Leichhardt Oval.
Soward said the win over the Knights took some heat off the Dragons. Now they don't have to beat South Sydney to finish on top of the ladder.
"It's going to take a lot of the pressure off us going back to Kogarah," he said. "But hopefully we will put in a good performance for the fans."
Coach Wayne Bennett, who arrived in Wollongong in November 2008 declaring he would turn the Dragons into a tough and uncompromising unit, said he had great pride in what the club had already achieved.
"Of course I'm proud of it," Bennett said. "I'm proud of what these guys have done, they've put the effort in.
"I think it's a great honour for the club. "It's great recognition of the way this team has played for the two years to go back-to-back minor premiers."

'Should' as in the Shield should make the trip without a hitch. The actual MP is in no doubt.

If, if!!, we win the comp a shirt like that would be a nice touch. If we throw it away I can't see a reason to buy it as you'd be shot to pieces in public by p*ss takers.
