Classic NRL Matches DVD?

I recently bought the Centenary of Rugby League classic tries DVD. I enjoyed seeing the likes of Greg Inglis's juggling act against Souths, Australia's last gasp try to beat GB in 1990 as well as classic grand final and state of origin tries.

Next I would like to see the NRL release a classic matches dvd/dvd's like the English Premier League soccer has. I have 3 different english premier league dvd's and I wish there was a league version. The best games of the first ten seasons of the NRL or something with extended highlights.

Featuring would be games like the 1998 Preliminary Final Dogs v Parra and the 2003 GF Penrith beating Roosters but also great regular season matches like in 2003 Penrith 28 Bulldogs 26 and in 2007 the thrilling 31 all draw between Roosters and Warriors. I would certainly buy it if they put it together.

What would be your 10 best matches of the NRL since 1998?

Where can these DVDs be found ?

Sometimes on Ebay and the likes of those you can pick up copies of old matches that people have put on DVD, i have quite a few of those ones

I'd like the NRL or someone to release a series of extended highlights of classic matches on dvd like the EPL has done but how would I go about suggesting it? :?

Hi All.

Today I purchased the "Rugby League's Greatest Tries Of The Century" DVD. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I know you can't put every try on the DVD but I was astounded that they left out Brett Mullins' famous double chip over the top and regather on the try line (against Newcastle I think). Not sure of the actual year, possibly '93 or '94.

Anyway, go buy it people, you won't be disappointed.

It was against the Broncos, they were wearing those horrible diamond jerseys.
He did score a couple of full field tries against the Knights

A Rugby League DVD I highly recommend (for all those who are RL fanatics or are very passionate about their sport) is "That's Rugby League", narrated by Warwick Moss (aka The Extraordinary). It gives a very detailed history of League from 1895 to 1994 (club games, state of origins, test matches, everything!), going through all the main events in chronological order. On the updated version of it, the timeline goes to 1999. I've only got the 1895-1994 version (which was the official centenary of Rugby League), and from what I remember, it goes for 3 hrs 17 mins. So, yeah, as I said, an absolute MUST for those who love their league. I bought this at JB-Hi5, when they had their clearance sale last year, for only $10.

Another DVD (that I downloaded as a torrent) was the "Magnificent 90's", which is similar to "Thats Rugby League", but the timeline is from 1990-1999 and it is not as detailed and in depth as "Thats Rugby League" (and only focuses on club matches). It primarily focuses on Grand Finals and other major standouts, like when Manly beat St George 61-0 in 1994, LOL! It's narrated by Andrew Voss, and begins with the aftermath of the famous '89 GF between Canberra and Balmain.

Although they don't produce these anymore (I also got these as torrents), the "Winfield Cup 200 Magic Memories" is another one that brings back some good memories (the latter ones I the only ones I vaguely remember, since I was only in Primary school then). Focuses on the years 1982-1995 (although most of the 200 clips are from the 80s and early 90s). The 'Winfield Cup 200 Magic Memories" was an 8 video series, with 25 clips on each video. Narrated by various ppl, including Steve Mortimer, Gary Freeman (man, his voice was painful to listen to back then), David Morrow (from ABC radio) and some other guy.

Finally, there's the Big League Videos (which they stopped producing when the SL war emerged). I've only got (again, as torrents) the 1993 Season in Review (which is extremely good. Focuses, again, on all forms of the game, including the successful World 7's earlier that year, and the Tooheys Cup knockout competition, played in Country NSW). This goes for 1 hour. I've also got the April 1993 video (which focuses in detail on the 1992 Brisbane/St George GF, 1992 World Club Challenge between Brisbane and Wigan, 1992 World Cup Final between Australian and GB (one of the best international matches, played infront of over 73,000 ppl at Wembley and the 1993 World 7's (all games in highlights)), which goes for an hour. Unfortunately, I don't have the '92, '94 and '95 Big League Videos, but am searching around for them as I'd love to see them. The 1993 Season review video is narrated by David Morrow (with some other bits in the middle narrated by Paul Harragon and Bob Linder (reviewing the S.O.O), Gary Freeman and Paul Sirronen (reviewing the Aus/NZ test series) and Kevin Walters (reviewing the finals)). The April '93 video has no narration, just clips of the games, and also some interviews with officials, such as Bill Harrigan, Peter Frilingos and more.

There was another thread stating "what you miss about rugby league" and some ppl said the way the game was played back then and the personalities in the game back then? Well, there's plenty of that sorta stuff, especially in the 'Winfield Cup Magic Memories' and 'Big League' Videos.

The Brett Mullins 'chip and chase' try you're talking about was against Brisbane in 1995. Yes, that is surprising that it got left off, as it's one of the more memorable tries (added with Ray Warren's commentary on top of that). If you wanna see it again, it's on this link below:

http://video.google.com.au/videosearch?q=NRL&sitesearch=

Go to a clip on the left called, "NRL - The best and worst". It is very long, but it is in there around the middle of the video.

The tries against Newcastle that you're referring to was in 1994. He scored 4 that night, including two length of the field ones, which capped off 2 consecutive matches of 4 tries each, and 11 tries in 3 matches for him. Brett Mullins was on fire in 1994. I've got this try on one of the "Winfield Cup Magic Memories" torrents.

Master Raider, did they also leave off the other well known Mullins try from the 1994 Major Semi-Final vs Bulldogs (also known as the cattledog or the one from the scrum, which was repeated in similar circumstances by David Peachey vs Brisbane in the finals 2 years later)?

Quite a few Grand Finals are out on DVD and one I have is called Great Moments Of Rugby League Grand Finals. I got it with a Pizza Hut meal deal back in 2003.

But yes I'd love to see these out on DVD. Just a case of getting the use of it from whoever owns the rights to the footage. (ie ABC, CH7 CH9 CH10 etc)

I watched the classic tries dvd and it was going great up to 1990 but then they barely showed any from the rest of the 90's and several rooster tries in the early 00's but nothing else which was disappointing. I would've thought atleast one Rhys Wesser try from 2003 could be a classic try.

I've got grand finals on tape but there's no such thing as a classic matches dvd for NRL like soccer where they have 10 dvds x 15 extended highlights of EPL games. The NRL continues to lag in promoting and celebrating its product but I concede its improving and this year has been alot better than most, thanks to the Centenary. Hope it won't nosedive when its only the 101,102 years of rugby league.
