I may be going out on a stretch when I say this, but DA is still a better coach in my eyes.

Not at all - your entitled to think that if you like. I'm just not sure what you base it on as Kearney has never coached in his own right, so how do we know WHAT sort of coach he is? The two can't be compared, yet.........

im sure kearney has potential but his experience is just a drop in the ocean compared to ando
p.s. i cant believe any storm fan would want him to come here seeing the way our current coach has been treated

I'm not talking about how long he's had, just the "no experience" argument.

yeah, the argument Kearney isnt a good appointment because he doesnt have a head coaching position on his resume is flawed, because every coach has had to have gotten their first appointment at some point.

I dont know enough to say if Kearney will make a good coach. One thing is for sure, IF he is the coach I'll support him.

i think the question everyone wants an answer to is why now? sure we had a poor season but is that reason enough to throw an experienced coach away with a year still to run on his contract for a rookie?

Well as I said, he has spent 4 years getting first grade experience, before he has gotten his club to a point where they can compete in September. He was also lucky, as he got a clean slate and an open check book to start his side.

Look seriously I say that the club should do what it feels is best, but I think if they do this, it may well hurt them in the longer run. If we don't come out firing in February then I get the feeling there will be some very nervous directors come March.

I will hold my support for a year or maybe 18 months to determine if he is worth supporting and if he is not, I fully expect everyone calling for DA's head to be back at it over Kearney.

and if we dont make the finals again next year what do they do then? fire kearney and get yet another coach in? assuming they are still in control of the club next september, which is looking iffy at the moment

Hmmm, likewise I expected everyone that called for Hagen's head to be now calling for DA's but it now seems it's just a matter of personal preference so who knows which way peoples principles will be twisted next time round. Principles are quite flexible around here you know.

Personally I think we played with way more pride and spirit this year under Anderson then we ever showed under Hagan.

Why would any coach in there right mind come to our club
instead of dumping the coach they should dump spagnolo
he has NFI what he is doing

Don't entirely disagree but it still didn't make up for what was lacking in other areas. The end result was actually worse because at least this year we had the advantage of Storm not acruing points.

But in any case it is the principle of it that I'm referring to.

I am not one of those supporters that will abandon the club because a coach is being axed. I would actually give Ando another year however I am not armed with all the information.

Getting to your assessment Mark, I do not agree with the spirit being good at all. I thought it was sh*thouse. In particular crunch games against the Roosters, Sharks and the Warriors. I still have a theory that there is a huge divide in our club between the veterans and the younger brigade. Hindy who speaks his mind has hinted about it on many occasions. This is where I believe Anderson has failed. In addition his obsession with Mortimer at 7 was a dumb move.

You know in all this hysteria people overlook that fact, in many ways DA has brought much of this on himself by not addressing what was painfully obvious to all and sundry.

Anderson can coach but I think politically he is limited. Phil Gould raised a great point today on the Roast. he said, words to the effect: "When they went on that great run last year many asked Anderson what happened and what caused the turnaround ? Anderson replied, "I don't know."

What a stupid comment from a coach of Anderson's experience. He did himself no favours by saying that.

I think the decision to sack Anderson and replace him with a rookie coach will send us backwards, it'll be square 1 again and I doubt we'll be a force again for a couple of years.

Im not saying Kearney's a bad coach, but its a huge risk to put him in at the same he is in charge of the Kiwi test side. How can he be coaching both Parramatta and the New Zealand team? Unless the NZRL decide to get rid of him and give it to someone with full comittments.

I think bringing in someone like Taylor would be better. He's coached us before and has a good record. Forget about his record at Souths, if Anderson gets sacked (which will be a disgrace) then Taylor should be given an opportunity here.

More chance of getting Cooper Cronk ?

PS Welcome back. Everything OK ?

Yes, IMO.

I haven't really been gone, just haven't been able to post much as I am currently working Mon-Fri from 5am until 5.30pm and a good part of Saturdays in two new jobs after I left HN a bit over a month ago.

Taylor is too interested in being one of the boys to be an effective coach at an NRL level - on a similar level to Langmack, Lamb and Coleman....... Kearney may well be a rookie coach but he has had a solid grounding at the Storm and the NZ Test side. I don't think he will come alone either.

Anderson has officially been sacked. See petes thread or the Foxsports News.

I believe Stagger (and others) has touched on it before but unless Cronk has a very explicit clause in his contract or Kearney is mates with an extremely good lawyer...does he really improve our chances of getting Cronk?
