I think we really need Brett Lee back in the ODI side, to give our side some much needed firepower. Siddle and Johnson for all their huiff and puff aint it

I think this should be our best side

Haddin
Watson
Ponting
White
Clarke
Hussey
SSmith
Lee
Harris
Doherty
Bollinger

Johnson 12th man (back up bowler)

We need to get Ferguson in the team. He was our best performed ODI batter before his knee knjury.

Yeah ferguson will be in the squad. Probably will get a lot of game time as we will rest or rotate players like sunshine, ponting, clarke a bit

That team looks good, however I would not take too much notice of Doherty's one game. Need to see him over a full season and he'll probably be dropped anyway knowing our selectors.

I also like Stephen O'Keefe. He is very hard to get away and looks a very good ODI bowler and a much better batsman than Doherty. We may not see him in international ODIs as Doherty will be second behind Hauritz so we'd need a few injuries before O'Keefe gets a run.

Lee is breakable, and will probably have injuries at some stage. I wouldn't have Notch in the squad on current forum but form doesn't seem to be an issue for our selectors who will no doubt keep referring to his past record.

I'd prefer Hastings or even George atm. George will probably be stamped never to play ODIs as he cant hold a bat, and looking at how Malinga batted last night its probably a fair assessment.

1. Watson
2. Haddin
3. Ponting (c)
4. Clarke
5. White
6. Ferguson
7. S. Smith
8. Harris
9. O'Keefe/Doherty
10. Tait
11. Bollinger

12. Paine
13. O'Keefe/Doherty
14. Johnson
15. Marsh

Tait and Harris come straight back in for goobers like Siddle/McKay/Johnson. O'Keefe or Doherty ahead of Hauritz for mine. If one of the spastics had to be in the side I'd go with Johnson.

yes true agree with all those points, except I think we need to gamble on one of either Lee or Tait. Our current attack aint gonna win the world cup on the subcontinent

Hauritz shouldnt be anywhere near the squad. He will get murdered over there. So if the selectors have half a brain between them, it will be useless if he gets picked for any ODIs prior to the world cup. We need to blood someone better, Okeefe, Doherty, my grandmother etc...

I hate Shaun Marsh, overrated like Siddle, don't know how they keep getting selected.

I'd go with,

1) Watson
2) Haddin
3) Ponting
4) Clarke
5) White
6) Ferguson
7) Hussey
8) Smith
9) Johnson
10) Lee
11) Bollinger

12) Harris
13) Hilfenhaus

Im starting to worry about SSmith and his back injury

He is picked primarily to bowl if not 10, certainly 7 or 8 overs per game. If he cant do that, he might be overlooked for Okeefe, Doherty........or dare I say it Hauritz

3. Ponting
4. Clarke
5. White
6. Ferguson
7. Haddin
8. Doherty
9. Harris
10. Bollinger
11. Tait

12. Johnson (cover for fast-bowlers)
13. Hastings (cover for Watson + seamers)
14. Smith (cover for White + spinner)
15. Marsh (cover for top order batsmen)

Ideal squad. Covers all bases. If Harris isn't fit, I would play McKay. I rate him in the limited overs arena ahead of Siddle and Starc easily.

George needs to get into SA OD side for starters then he needs to perform.

I reckon Warner is worth the effort - if he comes off you are well away, if not Haddin can come in and do a similar job. Clarke and Hussey are still the best guys we have for the middle overs as well as providing a 6th bowler option. O'Keefe is tight and can hit. Lee and Tait can win the cup on their own if fit so worth the risk, especially if the old ball starts reversing. Paine, Smith, Doug and Ferguson cover for any injury and/or loss of from.

David Warner
List A Matches: 30
Runs: 834@ 29.78

No thanks. I can't believe how easily some of you people are influenced by the media. The guy is a one trick pony who belongs solely in T20s

Yeah he's a one trick pony, but if that trick is to get the side off to a flyer then I'm for it. You've got to make use of that first 10 overs. I'd want Warner for that reason only, his strike rate is over 100 at List A. Get us to 80 or so after 10, then use a solid middle order of Ponting, Clarke, and Hussey to keep it ticking over before you go hard again at the death. I think Warner hasn't gone so well at ODI level because he's looked like he's been trying to play within himself. If he's given licence to swing then he'll get amongst it often enough, and like I said, when he does fail I'd have Haddin coming in to keep the momentum up. Watson can play for the longer innings.

I wouldnt include Warner either, not while we got better options

I think Sunshine and Haddin are the ideal opening pair for a number of reasons

Haddin as wicketkeeper and Sunshine can also bowl a lot of overs, so it gives us flexibility for the rest of the makeup of the side. They also both score quickly which is what you want when the field is in the first 15 overs, especially in India where the new ball is better for scoring quicker
