Robson Eels No.7

Got to feel a bit for Robbo, we were singing his praises after 2009 and the last year all we have talked about was a new halfback and this offseason that has been all the talk. If we put ourselves in Robbos shoes it must be hard to get motivated knowing the fans of the club don't want you as their 7, but to his credit he has used it as motivation to work on the areas he needs too and hopefully he proves the doubters wrong.

Maybe time to get behind the players we have instead of thinking of what we wish we had. If Robbo is the 7, then Robbo it is I'll support.

I agree. My only concern is when he is teamed with Mortimer. The track record of him getting any support from his #6 then is not good.

Don't get me wrong guys, I want Mortimer to succeed. Nothing would make me happier than for him to prove me wrong and guide Parramatta to a successful season. As I have said many times, I will be more than happy to come onto this forum & eat Humble pie should this happen... ;-)

Go the Eels!

You are very easily pleased. We start slowly at the best of times. This coming season could well turn out to be a trainwreck...

Having said that, I will get behind the new coach's decision. I am - and always will be - an Eels supporter first and foremost. Go out there and prove me wrong boys.

Go the Eels!

Ive wanted this since the first day of pre season training. Yeah we are slow starters most of the time. But if we go out there firing and the Halves selected have the support of the fans, then who knows how well we could start. Just for the record if this halves pairing doesnt work i would like to see Humble given the chance at 6 outside Robson. not Robson moved to hooker.

For me the bigger question is who gets first crack at hooker...I still believe half the problems last year were caused by slow and erratic service from Keating.

Like what?

Like more than Humble, Murray, Bruest etc have shown. They have also made a Grand Final. No matter how you look at it, Humble, Murray and Bruest or whoever have not shown enough to knock Mortimer and Robson out of the starting halves. Even though Humble is the greatest player ever to live after Hayne...
McGuire maybe, but he is better suited to 9.

OK, I'll bite. Please explain???

Please explain how you think Humble deserves first crack? Look, if say after Round 3 we average 10 points a game or so then I agree, Humble or someone else should be brought in. At the moment, you can't drop a Grand Finalist for a rookie.

Based on 2010 form, neither have said they were up to first grade. Forget the '09 grand final, that was a long time ago now. To be fair to Humble, he has not been given much of a chance to prove himself. But overall he has shown he's a more talented player then both Robson and Mortimor. Mortimor and Robson had all of 2010 to show they were up to the task, but neither made the most of it, and they shouldn't be given more chances handed to them on a platter.

well its to be expected - especially in the early going - and its what i had anticipated and said here quite often....with no Ordord etc

must be good for Robson (and Mortimer) to be able to focus on their jobs now and getting better though....really hope they can recapture their best form....

Solution, play Hindy at 7 because he can tackle. No disrespect to Robson, but he is the worst 7 in the NRL and I don't buy all this grand final in 09, because that was a once in a lifetime run on the back of a couple of players.

Hope against hope he proves me wrong, but if that 6 and 7 play alongside each other it will be a very long season, how we need a 7.

No he hasn't. Everyone keeps saying that but he hasn't. He's had one game at five-eighth and was solid, nothing more. He has had a couple of games at fullback and has shown nothing except he can run fast. His game against the Warriors was a shocker, worse than anything Mortimer has dished up. Mortimer in 2009 easily showed far more. He didn't have the best 2010 obviously but he deserves the first chance under a new coach.
Fair enough Humble hasn't had enough chances to show what he has, but in his few chances there is no way he showed more than either Robson or Mortimer.

Mortimer is fine at 5/8. But Robson isn't really an NRL standard halfback. It was fine when he was playing in 2009 as our third string halfback. But how that situation has persisted for two seasons is beyond me. He is a good bloke and I wish him well. But if neither Bruest nor Murray can step up then it will be a long season.

No it wont be a long season. Last season was all because of daniel anderson as most on here & our current board & ceo have told us.

If we fail i will only blame kearney & no one else

You really think that?
I can only accept that our opinions will differ when it comes to our halves no matter what, but I still think that a few solid games from Humble is certainly a lot better than a whole season of rubbish. No offense to Mortimer, he does try hard, but sometimes success and effort don't always correlate.
Ideally, I'd have Morts start during the trials and see how he goes in his 'natural' position. If the results don't come then we really have nothing more to lose from trying Humble out, I honestly think I'm being pretty reasonable with this, despite my cynic approach to our halves.

I agree with this.

Although I am not worried. I think we'll have quite a good season.
