I had fox for years, but thier customer service is just terrible, I have ditched it, only got it for the sharks game, agreed with the wife I would go the pub instead.

I'd like to get rid of it every summer.

Its worth keeping around 111 hits, TV1, Fox 8 has some decent stuff.

Even if your not that bigger cricket fan the KFC 20/20 series is worth watching and doco's are always good.

But yeah half the time I'd like to can it too.

It wil never happen. Fox knows that the sport channels drive their subscriptions and around 65% are predominately Rugby League focussed fans. If a sports only package were to be promoted, the other channels would die off, demand would drop drastically and most of Fox's subscripts would only be for the sport channel package.

Similar story here.

I had a Telstra bundle with Foxtel, Bigpond and the phone line. The bastards regularly doubled the bill and cut it off when I disputed it. It's back on now but it has become an exercise in time wasting. This month was the final straw, massive bill just before xmas ($540) and I'm chasing another credit. I decided it's not worth the hassle. On the 4 January we switch to Optus ($65 p.m.) and that means the end of Foxtel.

If I can't get to the game, and it's not FTA, I'll go and watch it at the local club.

i don't buy it - foxtel (and austar) has only about a 29% market penetration in australia.

if we say around 65% are rugby league focussed fans, 65% of 29% is 18.85%. so what that means is that 18.85% of the australian population subscribe to foxtel (and austar) mainly for rugby league.

but we know that a lot more than 18.85% of the population are league fans. so if you offer a sports only package (fs1,2,3, fsnews, sky, fuel + access to pay per view) for $25-30 a month, you could quite forseeably double the number of league fans with foxtel and increase your market penetration by a further 19% - at least.

you fill up your ads with ads for other foxtel channels, and you'll find very quickly that every man who signs up for the sports package will end up with an entertainment package for the rest of the family.

its poor business. i can't understand how these pay tv networks are sustainable, because their market penetration has not increased in the slightest over the last 8 years - yet they haven't bothered to come up with ways to increase it. aren't you better off having 50% of the population paying an average of 50 bucks a month (because the "super users" will offset the $30 a month sport users) than having 30% of the population paying an average of over 70 bucks a month?

If you could sign up for a certain package and the electronic program guide only showed you the channels you have access to, not every channel, that would be awesome. We have the full package minus the movies and when I took it down to the standard plus sports, the missus had a whinge at all the stuff she was missing out on cause she could see exactly what was on the other channels but couldnt watch them.

Id rather pay the extra $30+ a month than have the wife in constant whinge mode

i go to the pub to watch the 3 or 4 games per year which i cant get to or arent on FTA - why pay hundreds of $$ per year for that crap - and even more reason not to with all the extra digital channels on FTA - notwithstanding the fact i pledged a long time ago that murdoch will never get a cent of my money

hahaha

if only it cost $30.00 per month.

Well it gets me a little less whinging anyway :)

Yet not 1 extra game of league will be shown though. If 10 get the TV rights we may see more RL on One or Eleven but as it stands the vast majority of RL is shown on FoxSports. If you cant get to the game or a club/pub it is your only option

I've got every channel on Foxtel. I'm quite happy with the product. The only thing that brings out a nervous twitch is Fox Sports News leading with AFL when their subscription base and ratings would demand leading with the more popular choice.

That about sums it up for me.

Our household is pretty much a TV free zone anyway except for the footy. The notion of subscribing for television is at odds with my principles, notwithstanding the fact it is controlled by an organisation that I loathe.

Besides, who doesn't enjoy the trip down the pub to unwind a little. The missus is understanding, bless her, and sometimes she likes to join if she's keen.

But I'm going to have a rough time next season at the local down here in Vicland. Gonna have to play it extra cool with the Bar Manager to see to it that he puts on the footy for me and not the aussie rules .
