Pretty good post Ulysses.
I'm a bit tired of the conversation myself, so just wanted to end by saying that i agree with you - the rules do state that the winner is the team with most points.
But i dare say that whenever sport is played people want to see great players doing great things. Otherwise what's the point?
I can find a hundred big bodies that Wayne Bennett and Craig Bellamy (and probably Kearney too, but we will see) can drill into becoming a consistent, tough, structured outfit. And this is a problem for all sports in this professional era - the emphasis on winning, the time they have to drill consistency into average players - it all adds up to sport becoming more "grey". That's why the media go over the top when a Benji, or a Hayne, or Lionel Messi, come along - because true genius is being nullified by boring professionalism and therefore it's harder for it to prosper. And it needs to be nurtured an given room to move, not hidden within stricter structures.
For those that think i'm grasping at straws because i have nothing else to hack on your team about - why would I bother? Fact is, I wouldn't be saying this if the Tigers won, so it's hardly grasping at something to harass you about. I just want to see open play and imagination. If Bennett builds on your structure and you become more exciting, then I'll be the first to recognise that it was a great 3 year plan. But if you stay boring, well then that will just be sad. You've got your victory now, there's nothing to lose. I hope you open up a bit more this year.
