Just putting it out there, but I think the decision to leave Fa'aoso out on the field is an absolutely disgraceful position from both the referees, the NRL, the club doctor and the coach. Twelve players or not, he takes another knock to his head it could have killed him. Tough game and all but - ironically - it's time to use their heads and make a common sense decision.

the doctor would be aware of what is inside a player's cranium.

they stand by their decision.

The decision to keep him on the field lays solely with the club. The match officials had no impact what so ever

It's the worlds toughest sport for a reason, if you or any doctors want to cry about it. Go watch lesser sports like Union and AFL.

Players pushing through injury are an inspirational and something we better not lose to our game because of some quak.

I read the title and thought the post was about the club I support.

absolutely.

whenever i see a former player in a wheelchair, the inspiration brings tears to my eyes.

unless of course they're at a zebra crossing & i'm in a car. the tears are usually from me yelling at them to hurry the f*ck up.

Your having a lend aren't you?

Players playing on with a fractured arm, busted ankle etc are an inspiration not seeing someone knocked senseless and not knowing where they are is not. If it was a boxing bout the ref would of stopped the fight regardless of what any doctors say. The officials in yesterday's game would of been just as liable if anything happened to Fa'oso as any club doctor.

Sounds like you've taken too many knocks to your head yourself.

The rule that says that a player can't be interchanged during a scrum is stupid and needs to be changed.

However, unfortunately there wasn't much that could be done by the club. Who was he meant to be replaced by? The kid with the suspected broken leg? The one with the pectoral tear? The one with the dislocated shoulder? The one that'd already been knocked out? The doc assessed him and said he was right to go, he wanted to go back out...it's dangerous, but I'm hopeful the doc knew he was fine before letting him go back out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't he not allowed to leave because of the rules of the game? That's the way I saw it on the replay when I watched it tonight, and that's what they were saying on the radio when I tuned in live. Gould was saying the same thing during the TV commentary also.

Either way, it's disgraceful that he had to stay out there. If the worse case scenario happened and he took another head knock, the "Closed for Business" sign would be hanging out the front of the NRL doors because the courts, bureaucrats and domestic pressure groups would have a field day with us.

It's a rule that needed to be changed yesterday, and a regulation needs to be put in place that the clubs HAVE TO drag players off who have been subjected to a head injury.

Inspirational? I feel inspired. I want to be more like him. Please smack me over the head with a hammer every day so I can stumble around like Fa'aoso the hero. Hell, I'll move from hero and become a legend when I'm having my face wiped by my six year old every day, I piss and sh*t myself because I've lost control of that part of the brain and I'm drinking my steak through a straw. What a great quality of life that is. Wanker.

Yep, Fa'aoso was in control of his mental faculties... And his physical capabilities. I mean, they could get him to walk in a straight line and tell us where he was and what was happening couldn't they? What a great decision by the doctor, the coach and the player that was...

fair go, mate. we were dropping like flies and he wasn't allowed off for about 3 mins for the docs to check him because of scrums packing. if we had sent him out there with any other personnel available i would say you make a absolutely fair point, but in this pressure situation - and it was completely manic - you'd have to give the benefit of the doubt to the doctors and the Knights. Richie, the champ that he is, was busting himself to get back out there and lend a hand. Ciraldo was playing with a torn pectoral.

i'm not saying the situation was ideal, but i am saying that you'd have to show a bit of leniency in this case. circumstances were extreme.

The Knight's doctor is a very experienced physician. I'm fairly sure he's been with the club since the beginning. He knew what he was doing. He assessed him, you didn't.

Slightly off topic: Did Newcastle end up using all their interchanges with their injury toll?
i believe the last sub we used to bring Richie back on the field for Ciraldo was interchange 9. at that stage we had Ciraldo (torn pec), McDonnell (concussion), Rogers (dislocated shoulder) and Henry (undetermined ankle injury) unable to participate any further, so i'm going to say that we probably didn't use all 10. we didn't have anyone left to play.
