advantage rule???

On the other side of the ledger, AK and Pom were running some hard out blocks that were let slide.

Just sayin'...

SO WHAT????!!! Its professional sport . you play to what the refs are calling . I even coached that way at the high school level of the sport I coached . if the other side werent running such blocks and the refs werent calling it then they were missing an opportunity. Im also pretty sure if Hassler thought that tactic was a worry for manly now or in future games he would be screaming his head off in the media today . He probably noted it as a good tactic to try next week as the refs werent calling it .

Can some-one tell me why they can't adjudicate on forward passes when they go to the video ref!

It always has me gobsmacked!

I'm not sure if you could pick it up through the TV coverage, but Pom's efforts to protect the player catching the bombs was bordering on disgraceful.

He was literally running 40 metres at a speed and line that has no intentions of catching the football.

Eyes were only on the Manly players coming through to challenge for the footy.

I just cannot subscribe to the theory that the Ref's cost us the game. In order to learn from this and be successful we must look from within.

13 points is just not enough to win a modern day game of football.

They make calls if it is a knock on. Pretty sure it's the only rule in the book they can't make a call on and some of them are quite obvious.

Please don't give the argument of camera angles.
One camera angle gave Mr Pomeroy a try against the dragons whilst the other was the opposite.

It is if you can hold the other team to 12 or less :)

The fact that pom was doing that...it should have been penalised and the Manly fans have a right to whinge about it....just as we have a right to whinge about the refereeing that was detrimental to our cause.

The refs rarely cost any team the game..FACT. But they sure help sometimes!

Refs screwed us!

If it was early in the game such as the Lyon incident you cop it,
if it is very late in the game, crucial and game defining you f**king don't!!!!!!!

Sure Gallen and Toupu made errors but we defended well all game and would've got home if the pink twinkies didn't give them a leg up and call some terrible decisions.

I don't usually complain too much about the refs but I'm just f**king over it!!!!!!

We were robbed and I don't give a f**k what anyone says!!!!!!

Nuff said.

all this horsesh*t about the sharks blocking players and stuff has fug all to do with the fact that the advantage had been taken.
They had the ball ...even passed it . Then they dropped it cold .

what's got me farked, when they quote the paralax aspect of cameras and forward passes, is how the f**k then do they justify using the video for checking offside on a kick?

same thing.

To clarify the whole situation re the modern game and the pink fools.

The NRL should come out before the weekends rounds commence and annouce which particular clubs are going to get the favourable calls this weekend.

To save time they could just add a guest random selection to go with the permanent top three clubs.

Afterall it would help with the footy tipping too.

Bam. This has been a point of contention for me for a long time. Games are not played on an unmarked horse paddock. It has lines on it that are presumed to be 90 deg to the side line. If the ball leaves your hands behind this line and the reciever catches it a metre in front of that same line then that is forward. Player travel, velocity, carry, wind etc etc...all BoolShiit. Simple fact is if a ball is passed from 1/2m this side of the 40 and caught 1/2m the other side of the 40 it is deemed forward.

I think the field needs more lines.

Just needs common sense and men that can make decisions.
How many times when your watching the footy on TV and they go to the video ref do you see a forward pass and just laugh it off cause thay CAN'T make a decision on forward passes.
I reckon it's one of the more straight forward decisions to make.
It's a lot easier than making a decision on a crossfield bomb when there's about 5 pairs of hands around the ball which is going in all directions!
They make decisions on that!
Line ball forward passes = Benefit of the doubt
Bloody easy!

Bill on the advantage rule

"
Referees co-coach Bill Harrigan answers your most frequently asked questions from Round 5.
How long can the referee play advantage? When was the advantage taken in relation to round 5's Sharks v Sea Eagles game?
The advantage is over when the referee deems the non-offending team has taken their opportunity. This varies from referee to referee. Last year we tried to make the ruling black and white by saying that the advantage is taken when the ball is advanced 10 metres from the point of the infringement. By doing this we were trying to take away the grey area around the ruling.
We changed this after constructive criticism arose last season when teams were passing it from sideline to sideline, but were ruled to have not taken their advantage because of the 10 metre rule we had in place.
In the Cronulla v Manly game, it is unanimous across the referees that Manly did not take their advantage. They did throw one pass, but they didn’t have an opportunity to take advantage and that is why the play was called back for the original infringement.
Ultimately, it is now up to the referees discretion to decide when the advantage has been taken. "

It wasn't unanimous at all - what about the ref who signalled play on but then changed his mind probably because the other ref thought differently after we made a break.

If that was manly in our shoes, they would have been allowed to run 90m to score to wrap up the game. There is no doubt bias across teams - it mat not be deliberate but it is there. Ask the knights after Monday night - the broncos were given all the calls (& I am not talking about the trys disallowed).
