How many games before you ditched Fox?

Personally I don't have Fox because I think it's a coplete rort. Having to pay extra for the Channels I actually want.

Oh goodness. Fancy having to pay to see something you actually WANT to see. Oh the humanity.

I got Fox because of a number of reasons, most of them outside of Rugby League. I got it for the Hitler Channel, the childrens channels (vallium for the kiddies), ESPN (US sports) IQ recording and a raft of other things.

But today with Tivo and a large range of free to air digital channels, I'm questioning the wisdom of Fox. 99% of the TV I actually get the chance to watch is on FTA channels and it all tends to be recorded shows using IQ, which I could do with Tivo anyway and f**k off the ongoing cost. The kids still watch the childrens channels, but we've banned them watching TV Monday to Thursday anyway, so it's less relevant.

I love Super Saturday, but I only ever get to watch one game. So really my league watching on Fox is one Saturday game, plus the Monday game.

Lately fox sports news has been terrible.

I was out all day yesterday. Got home just before 10 and switched on 513 to see the nrl highlights. The first 10 mins was on the afl, next story on drew Mitchell breaking his leg, then surfing (yes surfing) then some other random sport, then at about 10.20 they came to the nrl. They showed one try from each game and a sentence from both losing coaches. In total it went for 1 minute. They then went to another afl story!!

Was an absolute disgrace and unforunatly is becoming more and more common.

I noticed the same thing, a serious imbalance between league n afl content lately! about to send a email whinge myself!

Free bbq, big screen, HD broadcast, Brunette (can't assure you of the darling though) You would only have to top up your schooner every 2nd time (yeah i am a great host).

Johnsy can almost compete with the RSL. ;-)
Well Southport isn't far from here and my better half picks me up should that one schooner too many contravene the edicts of the local constabulary. So best of both worlds. Although I understand that today they are turning a blind eye to illegal gambling in the streets.

I know exactly what you mean, especially today it is very, very difficult to adhere to the two standard drinks in the first hour & one standard drink each hour after that. I see your point, a two minute drive compared to just over an hours drive, I know which Mrs Willow would rather endure. ;-)

We'll have to catch up for a beer soon, maybe the Brissy game. I think we are staying @ the holiday Inn for that game (hopefully working a day that day if at all, It's honestly a 2 minute sow walk from work).

My teams never on FTA so it would probably take all of them to go.

Or for streaming to get more reliable.

Had Foxtel up until start of 2010 season. Only had it for the NRL and now I can watch *most* games streamed or at friends/venue.

New TV deal can't come soon enough.

You'd be screwed if you were here in New Zealand.

Sky has EVERY game live and commercial free. That includes channel 9 sunday games that are delayed over in Australia, because they take the direct feed from channel 9 live. we even get the odd comment from Rabs greeting the international audience when you guys are having ads.

as for free-to-air, Prime has 2 games each week (the Warriors game, and one other) but these are full of ads, and shown at godawful times like 11pm.

that's what no regulation will do. it's alright for me, because I can afford Sky, but for those without it would suck.

Oh, did I mention that Sky own Prime NZ? :-/

I think I am on a Telstra Cable 100 gig plan. That satisfies my TV downloading and streaming NRL/EPL.

It seems I'm one of many who just go down to the pub or club to watch the footy.

The club I go to has a Sports area with a bar and TAB facility. What more could I want? Though the might I wanted to watch the Cricket World Cup Final on the other hand. That was a different story. Had to watch it on a tiny TV in the TAB lounge.

Some people get out of the house and either,
a) Watch the game in good company at the pub
b) Go to the actual game

I'll never understand why people pay money for viewing, if you are that desperate get your geek on and find a stream.

Sorry for asking, but do you & others who are complaining about costs / paying for viewing get the internet for free ?

As for the new NRL rights deal, I think people are making some strange assumptions that Fox Sports will decrease their NRL coverage just because they're making a bid for more AFL. It's stating the obvious, but that's the advantage of having multiple channels. They might lose a portion to One HD or Channel 7, but will still have a big chunk of the NRL pie.

With Fox Sports News, I agree it can be frustrating as I hit the same type of problem yesterday, but then the next bulletin started with NRL. I think we must be fair & remember it is a national sports channel, not just rugby league & they do rotate the order of stories to reflect that.

I actually complained about that one. I counted 25 minutes. What the f**k were they thinking. Another game on fta combined with another price rise would tempt me to cancel. I cancelled fox sports over the summer but only lasted about a week once the season started so I will be hard to quit. I'd but a league channel instead of all of fox sports.

I managed to get sound at the pub today for the match and it just reinforced how glad I am I don't pay for Fox. The commentary is simply rubbish for a supposed dedicated Rugby League service.

Laurie Daley is worse than anything Channel Nine dish up, and I rate them very poorly. I'd be jamming hot irons on my inner thighs if I was a subscriber knowing I was paying for that rubbish from Daley.

The future will be the internet, subscriber TV will be a thing of the past before too long. I'll be hooked up to the NBN the minute it's rolled out. And a trip to the pub for the odd game is no trouble for me.

they won't if they don't pay for it ... if they try n diddle us again they should get nothing
why do we need to give any games to fox ?
our game will no longer be half owned by new ltd .. so we can do what we like
offer all 8 games to the 3 commercial broadcasters ... even 9
they'll need something to show in the nthn states in winter too & offer our rep games separately on top of this .. all 3 can afford an amount that combined for the above will tickle a billion dollars

leaving fox with no league at all .. just the AFL & this legion of sthn subscribers they think they're gunna get

they'll be out of business by 2016 , when half of their nthn subscribers have no reason to stay with them.
