The naming of subi oval was sold for $1.5mill a year! Can be a big money earner if your club has the profile. Having said that being a council owned stadium I would imagine the SMC would get the money not the club.

Been into Wiki again have you . . . just put the Seagles into Bluetongue permanently and leave the Bears buried. When they were alive they had no class and if they did find any more like Cliffy Manly would just poach them.

Yeah desert the northern beaches, great idea "not" as said many times Central coast want their own team..

In regards to poaching players, it's 2011 now, done by all clubs, time to get you’re head out the sand...

Meh, Cliffy was on the bench for reserves when Manly grabbed him. Snooze, lose.

Was that article really blaming naming rights for the lack of development?

Diff between brookie and Newcastle/gong is that it's a suburb and not a regional centre...compare it to kogarah then fair enough

Des went on to draw comparisons between the kind of money Newcastle and Wollongong have received for their stadiums and the money for a redone Brookvale, saying the twin steel cities have received $90 million each compared to $6 million for Manly.

WIN Stadium hasn't received close to $90m. Are they counting Kogarah or the WIN Entertainment Centre? Both even? Bizarre figure.

I'd say that surely Dessy is foxing with a figure of $90 million???
Has to be working on the theory of make a stupid request and get them to agree to half.
$40-$45 million would be all they need to make a MASSIVE difference to the stands and facilities at the ground.
And when you look at the grants other grounds in Sydney and around Sydney have received, that figure is certainly not over the top. But its ALL political. If Manly was in a marginal seat you wouldn't be able to build a new stadium quick enough with all the cash that would be getting thrown at them.
And David Gallop has been defeaning with his silence on the whole issue.

Don't think this has been posted yet.

Project upgrade, from the Warringah Council site - http://yoursaywarringah.com.au/brookvalepark

The McGregor Coxall project team have held two workshops with key stakeholders this week to present the first options on which to base a master plan for Brookvale Park. These options have also been uploaded to Council's website and there has been some media coverage of them and the project.

What we have heard...

•There are requirements for game days that do not appear to be catered for, such as access for ambulances, parking for media and the location of the cameras if the Oval is moved to the north – the project team is identifying what these needs are and considering how they could be accommodated.

•The current options do not have enough under cover seating – the Manly Sea Eagles will be meeting with the project team shortly to discuss their seating requirements.

•Local residents in Alfred Street are concerned about over-shadowing – shadow studies are being undertaken and the project team will meet with local residents to discuss the outcomes of the shadow modelling.

•Traffic generation from new development is a concern – traffic studies are underway to model intersection capacity and increased traffic volumes associated with development. More information about this will be available shortly.

•Game day parking remains an issue – Council is undertaking traffic studies and will shortly commence work on a game day traffic management plan in consultation with stakeholders.

•Maintenance of the trees along Pittwater Road has been warmly welcomed.

•Opening up the park and oval is generally supported, provided access can be managed on game days.

•Provision of community facilities is supported and local schools have indicated they would like to have better access to facilities and space at the oval.

•Embellishing the park with upgraded playground and the potential for additional sporting activities such as basketball and netball is strongly supported.

The project team is continuing to work on developing a preferred master plan and commence work on draft concept designs. These will be placed on exhibition and a full consultation process will commence from late August.

Seems they still just want a community park, and not an NRL side. Manly should talk to Stadiums Queensland about getting a nice new 30k ground built at Noosa.

Not enough under cover seating?! There isnt enough seating in general.

The plan is great for the community , but terrible for the sea eagles. It seems the local council couldnt give a damn about the sea eagles.

You cant have an open stadium like this being used in the NRL.

Adrian McGregor, project director and principal of McGregor Coxall added; “It is exciting to think how we could lead the world in demonstrating how a professional sporting venue can also become a place for the community to work and play.”

---

That's from page 6, I'm hoping in the rest of this thread there's been a hell of a lot of changes in the direction they're taking this. Yeah, I'm sure Adrian that this is a world leader, I can't wait to see Yankee Stadium or Old Trafford and the like bowing down to your knees asking for you to design for them a tin-pot half canned job that would basically destroy their viability. What a mong. Seriously, get off the grass, stop hugging trees... I know there's been talk that there's been consultation with the community, but fair dinkum, if any leaguies turned up to this intrepid nonsense and accepted it I'd be massively surprised. I reckon I could take a dump and the end result would look better.

I have to laugh at the main proposals. It does not read like the upgrade project for a team in a major sporting comp at all- "Most trees retained" "bicycle loop" "Grass hill extended". Seriously i thought the north shore/beaches were safe from the green idiots interference?

Manly should go lobby for a new boutique stadium on the northern beaches as its clear this mob in the council have very little interest in seeing a stadia fit for the 21st century at brookvale.

Are they really carrying this through as the only proposal Manly fans?

I have read the consulation report breifly and did a search on capacity. It is mentioned numerous occasions but always in relation to staying the same, with only the ratio of standing/seating to change

Jesus freekin Christ.. if they can't even sort that out, how are they ever going to secure a decent upgrade??

There's simpler design for brookavle that should be implemented.

A bowl design in large white porcelain - a wooden seat with a big hole - and a chain.

It's always been a toilet - and the fans are the closest things to turds you'll ever meet.

It's perfect.

Some people barely remember who the North Sydney Bears are. A freeway bypassed the joint years ago, Manly just finished the job.

Like a dying injured broken down defenceless animal, screaming for mama, the Bears yearning and gurgling for 1922... and then the Sea Eagle swoops in, taking away the soft bellied yet liability heavy carcass, cleaning the mess for generational Rugby League record prosperity.

When we make something extinct we can really do a job on you... and the world of NRL reaps the rewards.

I once had to play cricket on an oval that the farmer let sheep onto trhough the week and you spent half the time you were fielding dodging the shit everwhere... But that was when I was 11 and playing in a cournty cricket league.....What kind of professional sport plays on a glorified playgrounds? tell me that?
Surely with the economic clout of any club, they deserve better than this. It just screams 'small time' doesnt it?

Uncovered hills, dog walking, dog shit, community resource... hardly the home ground 'fortress' is it?

Wouldnt we be better off with less grounds of a higher quality in areas that recognise the value of having a proper 25-35 all seater ground? Stadium deals are vital for the long term health of clubs and compromises like this make it impossible for clubs to grow attendances up to a average of 20k or draw in more corporate support.

this stuff is BASIC. BASIC.

What is it about Souffs and Norffs fans that makes me think they havent got 2 brain cells to rub together ??? Its a disgrace the NRL and council dont seem to give a rats about the state of the oval.
Heres hoping common sense prevails in the state govt

Yes, but that raises a structure question about the NRL in Sydney. Currently, we have regional sides dividing the city. That requires regional stadia.

Fewer grounds may work, but they have to be easy enough for people from each area of the city to get to. EG, Liverpool would be a great location for a Tigers/Bulldogs facility.

The clubs themselves are limited in their ability to move. This may be the driving mechanism for rationalisation of clubs across Sydney.
