If Wayne wants Gidley at hooker next year for the knights and he gets a whole off-season training there, then Gidley will be the NSW #9 . He showed he is quality in that position in Game 2 and that's with limited training in that position. A full off-season in the #9 and he'll learn all the ins and outs of a hooker ..... Plenty of improvement there, still.

Since the NSW halves lack creativity, I think Farah will be a great asset.

1. Dugan / Stewart (Really whoever is in better form at the time, I know Dugan is probably our 'future' fullback, but Stewart is the better player at the moment IMO.)
2. Hayne (Best NSW back over the past 4 or so years)
3. Lawrence (Best centre in NSW)
4. Gordon / Jennings (I think Gordon could really shine in the centres, however I'm not too sure on his passing game and Uate needs all the ball and space he can get)
5. Uate (Best Winger in NSW)
6. Campese / Soward (Depending on how good Campese returns next year, he is our greatest 5/8, he can be inconsistent but being surrounded by better players will help that area of his game)
7. Mullen (Same story as Campese, can be inconsistent, but NSW's greatest half back IMO on his day. Waiting too see what Bennett can do for his form)
8. TLL (Best Prop for NSW, maybe not best at club level, but origin he has always fired, be it on the bench, backrow, prop)
9. Farah (I can't stress enough how important this position is, and Farah is NSW's best hooker)
10. Snowden (If he can overcome his back injury in time and regain his form. Maybe even return as a better player under Bennett)
11. Lewis (Even though he is rated, still under-rated, a great all round backrower and leader)
12. Bird (Breaks the line, defends well, always plays well for NSW)
13. Gallen (C) (Workhorse, captain, aggressive, inspirational)

14. Mannah (Does his job, however better utilised off the bench rather than starting imo)
15. Galloway (Deserves another shot, only got to play 10 minutes for NSW, great prop for tigers)
16. Sims (future NSW star backrower, start him now in what is a fairly experienced NSW forward pack)
17. Watmough (Aggressive, experienced, great impact off bench)

18. Fensom (Potential lock / backrower for NSW in the future)
Coach. Ricky Stuart

We have enough quality props to allow Gallen to play back in the backrow, they just need to be rotated properly and the right props need to be selected.

High quality team. I think I'd prefer TLL to come off the bench though

I'd start broader.

Assume that Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis, Greg Bird and Kurt Gidley would have incumbency from next years Test...

City

1. Jarryd Hayne
2. Nathan Merritt
3. Chris Lawrence
4. Michael Jennings
5. Joseph Leilua (lack of better choice?)
6. ???
7. Mitchell Pearce
8. Tim Mannah
9. Robbie Farah
10. Tim Grant
11. Anthony Watmough
12. Ryan Hoffman (returning to NRL next year)
13. Reni Maitua

14. Jamie Buhrer (I like the look of this kid as a utility)
15. Mark Minichiello
16. Keith Galloway
17. Shane Shackleton

Backrowers Glenn Hall and Liam Fulton, young raw-boned prop Mitchell Allgood, and back Lachlan Coote are all pretty unlucky to miss out. William Hopoate would have been a shoe-in had he stayed in the NRL, and I wouldn't have looked passed Shane Rodney either, but he is heading off to ESL.

Country

1. Josh Dugan
2. Brett Morris
3. Jamal Idris
4. Michael Gordon
5. Akuila Uate
6. Jamie Soward
7. Jarrod Mullen
8. Kade Snowden
9. Michael Ennis
10. Tom Learoyd-Lahrs
11. Ben Creagh
12. Beau Scott
13. Chris Heighington

14. Ryan Hinchcliffe
15. Tariq Sims
16. Luke Douglas
17. Trent Merrin

Backrowers Chris Heighington, Mitchell Aubusson and Chris Houston are unlucky to miss out, as are props Ashton Sims, Brett White and Aiden Tolman, and backs Josh Morris, Blake Ferguson and Joel Thompson. I could even see youngsters Joel Edwards and Shaun Fensom pushing for a spot in future. Not sure about Weyman's value.

Dean Young, Michael Weyman, Brent Kite, Bryce Gibbs, Jason King, Anthony Quinn, Steve Turner, James McManus etc should be forgotten - they just don't have 'it'. Not even worth considering IMO.

Pick from these guys + the incumbents in selecting the team.

Slot Maloney into 6 for City.

EDIT: Actually, looking at his junior club the guy is about as country as country can be.

Go Wallace for the time being.

Unless Bennet turns Mullen into a consistent player there is no way he should be in the side. Such a hot and cold player.

There is still no clear halves pairing for NSW. Pearce is the definition of "solid" and nothing more. Soward has his moment but is not an origin player.

Too bad Foran is a Kiwi and Carney looks like he wont play NRL again...

Mullen should barely even be in calculations for CvC, he can barely even play for 80 minutes for the Knights.

Campese should come into consideration for the 6 jersey for Country.

I would like to see Fensom and Edwards get a shot, I think they have more potential than say Heighington even though he is a fine player I think those two will surpass him if they haven't already.

Chris Houston should come into consideration as well.

I would take Tolman over Douglas as well.

That's the biggest flaw with CvC, it isn't a true trial because you can't just make two teams out of the best 34.

Using Mack's teams as an example, the aforementioned Maloney, Fensom, Tolman and Houston all don't get a run despite being superior than their City counterparts (???, Minichello, Shackleton, Hoffman). That's what really restricts it's value at this stage, that it isn't a true representation of those vying for positions.

@The Mack: Uate won't be playing for Country - He'll be playing for Australia and will be an automatic selection for NSW

Yeah to be honest it wouldn't surprise me to see Lawrence, Uate, Creagh, Bird, Gallen, Kidley, Lewis and maybe even Beau Scott line up for Australia in the ANZAC test.

Can some please tell me why the f**k Farah is never being picked for Origin. I know something happened but I seriously don't remember.

As long as continue to pick Ennis we will have issues with that position. Also Farah is a 80minute Hooker that brings that creativity and spark to the position. Something we need to fire up the front-line and create more space for our fast pack (Hayne, Uate, Soward and the like). We have the footwork to be fast and play on the ruck speed.

Farah played 'solid' in a losing team in game 1 09.
Played average (and injured) in a losing team in game 2 09.
Ennis played game 3 09 in a dead rubber and played solid in a winning team.
Ennis is apparently an origin type player.
There is basically your answer
Farah should be selected but won't

Farah was worse than average in game 2. He was awful. And he was ok in game 1. To be honest the best hooker NSW have had since Buderus is Gidley.

How about people put forward suggestions for players from their club that might play in next year's team:

Knights

Mullen
Kidley
Uate
Tahu
Buderus
Snowden
Houston
Edwards
Boyd (f**king qlder though...)
Maddog (he is bluffing with the retiring lol)

I think NSW have quality outside backs and should just mix and match the usual suspects. However, I think if Tahu stays fit and works up a combination with Uate, they'll get the nod (Midley and Tahu of old style) on the right hand side.

If our team does fire up next year under WB we could be the dragons of the last 2 or 3 years... Potentially:

2. Uate
3. Tahu
6. Mullen
9. Kidley
10. Snowden
14. Buderus (Wally Lewis style)
18. Houston/Edwards

I am being awfully optomistic/crazy though.
